I went and checked on my boys in the field tonight, they are just down the road from my house and there was a man taking photo's of my 2 boys, when i asked what he was doing he told me that he wanted to buy them and asked me how much they were. I told him that the boys weren't for sale and he said he had money in the car to pay for them, i told him i thought he should leave so he got in his car and sped off. Now it may be totally innocent but i just think it's a bit off. He was driving a mustard coloured VW passat on a '08' plate. I'm based in Wellesbourne in Warwickshire.

Def sounds dodgy to me, bloody people

OMG!!! I'll keep an eye out for that, thanks for letting us know!

Please report it to the police. They do at least keep a log of strange things like that, and it might help someone else

I called the police straight away but you know what their like, they can't do anything until the horses have been stolen!

But they can log it. And that is what is important at this stage.

sounds dodgy to me as well - but I doubt anyone planning to steal your horses would be so public about it !

I did say it may be totally innocent but i was just making people who may be local to me aware about it.

Didn't you say they both had strangles, one was a confirmed rearer with a nasty kick in it and both were microchipped and freezemarked. Also, they weren't exactly yours but belong to your OH - a Detective Inspector?

Sounds highly suspicious to me - particularly if he was offering you money. Can you put CCTV cameras up, or at least warning signs that CCTV cameras are there, even if they aren't? I would be extremely concerned - but I am naturally suspicious of anyone behaving oddly and always make a note of number plates.

You did the right thing by notifying the police, even if they aren't able to do anything without a crime having taken place. They can notify local horsewatch co-ordinators - I think we have something like that organised in East Anglia?

You should've said yes and laughed as he tried to get 2 horses into his VW!!
Seriously though, we had incidents like this around our way last summer, guys in a van taking photos who sped off if you tried to speak to them, other guys sat watching yards in a car, also horses in the area kept getting a mysterious single plait appearing in their mane, maybe marking them for something?? It was all very weird and scary, but everyone reported it to our local Horsewatch, turned out it was always the same van, car and blokes and the police picked them up in the end for questioning. I doubt they were charged but they weren't seen again. Our Horsewatch has an online message board too that everyone posted on where they had seen them, our local equine officer used to read this too and reply sometimes. We are lucky around here, our police are very horse friendly!
