Just a pic of my most beautiful filly

Haha love how this happens to alot of threads , people will always find something to critisise or make it seem like your incompetent of looking after your own horses

Apparently horses tend to leave it alone when its just growing anyway , its only when it's dried in hay that its more palatable?

Back to the thread , lovely filly you've got there. She looks adorable in the siggie pics too! Her colour is gorgeous and she looks like the kind sort :)

Beautiful filly :D

:D:D:D loving it!! They are not taking the hint.....lol

Hehe, don't worry you lot. I've been around long enough to know that all threads go off topic.

I'm more than happy to discuss ragwort. It's as good a subject as any. Genuinely would love to hear how people deal with blooming thistles if we're talking weeds.

And back on subject, she's about 15.1 at the moment so hopefully she'll make 15.2 or 15.3. She is quickly catching up with BH. I'll find you a picture of them together.

Mrs M, you have the most amazing access to the smilies!!! You seem to have one to fit every subject!!!

I have a selection of ponies, and some of my sheep, who are only too happy to pick off the young flowerheads. It's most amusing to watch especially the sheep as only a quarter of them can do it properly and the others watch in amazement as those that enjoy are carefully picking and munching away. Then the others have a go and obviously can't understand what pleasure there is in getting prickled.

She is rather scrummy!

Thistles - I reckon the best way is to chop them down before flowering/seed stage, and let the horses eat them - they seem to develop a taste for them once cut - I always thought it was because they are less prickly when dry, but having watched a pony ignore the lush grass in a new field in favour of the thistles I'd just flattened by getting the gate open, my current theory is that they are less prickly to eat from the base upwards! :D

Murphy is the same, won't eat them when they are growing but follows me round when I am chopping them down and eats them as they hit the floor. Would save me so much work if he would just cut out the middleman.:p

Awww she's very sweet indeed, I really like her.

She'd make a nice girlfriend for my lad too, they could get it on and make more lovely grey babies :D:D:D

Ok back to being serious, all the best with her, look forward to seeing more pics, what are your plans for her?

It's funny and this probably sounds bad, but I just assumed no one would comment because most people 'know' me and that my horses are basically looked after ok and that I probably know not to feed them ragwort.

Obviously I am not as immune to the forum as I thought!

Anywho, I think she is one of the prettiest horses I've ever seen. She's going to be a heart breaker when she grows up. I know I'm biased though! :)

I think you should pick the Ragwort, put it into a pretty bouquet and take another photo of you and your horse and your pretty flowers lol, see what reaction that gets ( am in a wicked mood today) X

I can offer you a lean mean thistle eating machine for a very reasonable rate!

I believe he may be partly related to Eeyore, but he eats whole thistles, from the flowers down to the ground, doesn't matter if they are young and soft or old, massive and very coarse, he loves them! Not a thistle left in our fields...think he prefers them to grass!

Your girl is GORGEOUS by the way!

Last year when I cut the thistles my youngster picked them up and then swung them around at me:eek: He did actually get me a couple of times and it hurt! This year he is like Murphys Minders horse and eats them but only after I have cut them.
Loving the pic of the sitting down horse:D

It has been a bit boring on here lately so I think you should post that pic of her hock - with her standing next to the ragwort. Do you have any barbed wire she could pose with :D:D:D Lovely filly:D

Give it a chance - the schools have only just broken up ;)

KatPT, I would love to rent the thistle eater! All the ponies on our yard eat them whole. And the nettles. Stupid TB horses. They're useless!

Maybe it is a pony thing...they never know where their next meal might be coming from!

So what are your plans for the young lady?

I've got 2 of the thistle/tree/nettle eating swines if you want them? One even has a pretty bandage on one of his legs and likes to escape? Both are TB's too lol :D

(methinks that won't work as a trade plan!)
