I've had the polish gypsies around my yard the worst of it is that we are down a quite private road which you have to purposely drive down to get to my bit.

They just walk through my gates bold a brass asking if we wanted to buy any power tools!!
My lorry is now parked infront of the double gates and my tack is tucked up at home with me.
I just letting you know as my friends farm quad was stolen by the polish a few weeks ago but they didn't bank on the tracked they had had installed

so its now back.

I'm in the Moritmer,Tadley,Silchester area so keep your eyes peeled.
xx

oh - don't be mean - they are after all EU citizens and entitled to work here (and have all the state benefit leaflets translated into Polish so they know how to claim the maximum amount of state handouts)

<sarcasm mode off>

Do they have gypsies/travelers in Poland?, or are they Roma who are not really defined by Geography?. Either way get the guard dogs out.

Thats nice of you - to park your lorry by the gate for them so that they don't have far to walk......

Well what can I say I'm so nice at heart

I figured that once the lorry's parked up and the air brakes have set on it would be a pig to move and as we have cameras down there and alarms I hope they would scared off before they bothered moving it.

Police said that they were Polish. They found them loading up the quad into a container in Arborfield."Allegedly they are helping the locals" but don't know that for sure!!

It was a blue transit short wheel basis with polish number plates.

yeesh!!!!!!!!! this is such an appalling generalisation!!! Somebody English is just as likely to steal something from your yard as someone who is Polish!!! Except that the english person who is desperate enough to steal tack has at least been given a better opportunity at an education than those who chose to emigrate for better work and pay

I must've missed the generalisation... where was it?

True, I expect the OP would've posted very much the same message if the people who had approached her yard had been English. Dodgy is dodgy, in every nationality.

Now THAT is a generalisation

But it's not really a generalisation, the OP was informed by the police that polish people were found trying to offload a quad and the van had polish plates?

Plus if they have chosen to come here for better pay and work - why are they stealing quad bikes?!

Whether somone is from the UK with a private school education or from outer Mongolia and unable to read - stealing is against the law whatever the sob story may be. Blimey....

Nope, thats fact based on the literacy rates and immigration :P
lol, though i take your point

The generalisation for me is that this conversation is working around the fact that these people are Polish and possibly gypsies, and then implying thats a bad thing. To me it reads in a way that would be offensive to someone of either of those communities. Just saying

I still don't think that's a generalisation, but let's agree to disagree, shall we

How can an honest Pole or an honest traveller take offence for a small minority? I'm an Argie and I happen to know that plenty of Argies are as crooked as they come; like plenty of English people, etc, etc.

Sorry you find it offensive but had they been Irish,English,Scottish or little green men from Mars I would of typed the same thing (didn't use the term Pikey as it is offensive to some but its excatly what they are). They have been spotted at 2 separated yards around here just this evening the police have been informed to the local sightings and are keeping look out.

But why go to a small out of the way stable yard to sell power tools surely they would be better of at the building sites. Or is that a sweeping generalisation as only builders use them!!.

But as I said wether they were of any creed, colour or sex you still do not walk onto someones property through closed gated which is clearly marked private.

The police said they said they were Polish Gypsies after all some of them have been arrested already in their part of stealing various items so I guess they would know don't you think!!

Thanks for the warning Darkangel - my horses are stabled in that area and in the past few months we've had strangers on the yard when travellers have set up camp close by.
