My 10 year old crossbreed has vomited blood this morning, he was sick twice, first lot had a couple of blood spots, the 2nd lot was bright red blood ? I rang the vets for advice, dog has been on Apoquel for skin allergies for a week so wanted to check it wasn't related to that, was told it was unlikely. I have an appointment this afternoon but he has eaten since he was sick and was active and happy on his walk - I don't really want to pay, yet another, consultation fee to just be told to keep an eye on him, so do I just keep an eye on him or does he need to be checked over? ??

I think I would ring again and ask to speak to the vet. Bright red blood is less concerning than 'coffee grounds' type blood and could just have been as a result of the vomiting, if a s.all blood vessel in the throat was burst. I suppose really it depends on how much blood there was and what you think was the reason for the vomiting.

My initial reaction was to panic but having watched him over the last 3 hours, he seems fine, in fact he's much happier today than he has been over the last few days because its now cooler, he was happy and bouncy on his walk and has eaten his breakfast with no more vomiting, so am thinking it was more likely that a small blood vessel has burst because of the vomiting ?
