Just been up to get the boys in and OMG......

my boy is in most days at the moment to get out of the heat and the million horse flies that seem to be about. If I don't bring him in he canters down the field behind me, which is the biggest hint that he wants in!!!!! can't ride in this heat so usually go about 7ish then he goes out with fly rug/mask and loads of fly spray!

I have field shelters but mine have been in for a month except the Arabs and now even they are ready to come in at 8.00am.

Now I have switched my am yard work for 8.00pm even then it is pretty hot work.

Yes it is HOT. Hoping for Thunder tonight and proper rain on Thursday.

Mine are in today aswell...they now go out at night..one was soo sweated up and covered in huge lumps and bumps from horse flies i had to bring her in bless her

Out 24/7 at the moment, he was lovely and cool at lunchtime in the shade.
The others were sweating in their stables, so proves the breeze and shade of the trees is working

Mine are out but with masks and fly rugs on. Unfortunately my stables get the full sun from about 12pm so it's a bit pointless bringing them in as it's hotter in than out.

However I am a bit concerned as we do not really have much shade in our paddocks. I was thinking of errecting a gazebo but then there is the problem of the guide lines etc.

I will see how they are later and give them a nice bath to cool them down. We can't win can we, too wet and cold or too hot and dry!

I read the five day forecast - and the heatwave seems to be over after Friday - Sat and Sun are cooler.
Mine are out, as their stables are hotter, and they hate being in, anyway.
Mind you they've got trees for shade, etc.

yard is a real sun trap so hate having them in even though field doesn't have any shade hope for a bit of breeze they both have fly rugs and masks on. Pink nose one has a full mask completely solves that issue.

It is my understanding that some sun creams can make them fry worse if they are oil based.

mine is out with a flysheet on, as otherwise all the clipped bits and scars will get burnt. She is happier out as at least the air does sort of move as opposed to her stable which is just a sweat box

Mine are out and loving it. They have a large very cool shelter, but haven't been near it. They have a very very light breeze.

I may get shouted at for this but i have found Jeds pink nose it better if i dont put anything on it. I was using factor 50 kids stuff and he came in really sore later on. I forgot to put anything on one day last week and his nose was fine! Very odd!

Yes, because if we block it completely they don't tan and get a bit of resistance. I'm not sure if one of my boys doesn't have a reaction to the Boots kids sunblock, he did look a bit too pink when I used to use it.
Anyway, P20 is a sun filter, not a block, so you and the horses get a tan, but are protected from burning and damage. I've just been back up to mine, I put the P20 on at about 9 am, and their noses are just fine. There is a much cheaper one called Calypso, if you see that get it, it works just as well.

Mine came in this afternoon, they were much happier standing in their stables away from the flies!

I gave them both a hose down tonight and covered them with fly spray and turned them back out.
