After a lot of thinking (after yesterdays post on funding a 3.5ton lorry) ive decided i need the bigger box, (my boy is 16.3hh!) so im going to do my LGV (god how i wished ide passed before 1997!!!)
some of the quotes i got for a medical were amazing....ranging from £180 to £40! obviously ive gone for the £40 one! cannot believe how much some doctors charge!!
anyone here done their test? how was the actuall test and is it as easy as ive heard? (the actual driving test...not the medical!!)

LOL!! I was about to say - yep the medical is easy peasy!! :)

Do you know who you will be training with yet?

I was really lucky and found a brill training centre in Reading (I was working just outside Reading at the time), and I got on really well with the instructors. They prepped me really well for the test, and I had 2 different instructors sit with me to do mock tests before I went in for my actual test - which helped enormously, as I suffer really badly with my nerves on things like that.

You do the reversing bit and emergency stop before you go out on the road - and TBH I didn't struggle with that at all. Once you get in your head how big your vehicle is, its just like driving an oversized car.

The drive isn't a problem - again, its just a huge car - just make sure you don't hit pavements etc - they don't like that!

Are you doing up to 7.5t, or the HGV over 7.5t? Only, I did my HGV Class 2 (sorry I know there is a different letter category it is called now, but can't remember it for the like of me!!) as it was the same price as the up to 7.5t test, but obviously allowed me to drive heavier vehicles if I ever needed to. It is unlikely that I ever will - but at least I know I can if I need to :)

im just doing the LGV up to 7.5ton, i know i will NEVER need to drive a HGV.
i dont know who im training with yet, im planning to do a 5 day course or similar, but dont know where yet. our local one in peterborough is Apex and they are sooooo expensive, so it wont be them!
any recommendations appreciated!

Flo_bell I trained in Reading too - probably same peope, in Swallowfield? R...t? Actually sod it its not advertising as I'm not connected to them in any way - React? They were brilliant!! I did my B+E trailer test with them, then my class 2 HGV (Now LGV C).

Goneshowjumping I wouldn't say it was easy to start with tbh, I needed my 5 days training and had to work hard at it but I did pass and never looked back, love driving my truck - have a 7.5t but would happily go bigger, and always an advantage to have the full cat C. Test is the same, certainly with people I trained with lorry was essentially same size that you trained in just heavier, and test was same.

thanks for that. i was quite lucky a few years back as my now ex partner brought a 7.5ton to take me out in, and i drove it on private land, so had a bit of experience driving one anyway.
i am quite excited at the prospect of having my licence but gotta get through the theory yet! ;-)
