Hi, ive just brought a Black dressage Tekna saddle. I love the saddle its self to ride in, its very comfortable and keeps me sat in the correct position, which is why ive brought it, I dont actually do dressage!
It's just ive always had brown show saddles as I used to show, and ive never had a black saddle.
My horse is dark bay, but I just cant get the idea that it should be a brown saddle on him, out of my head.
Can some people reassure me that black saddles are the norm, I know im being really silly, but I could take it back today and im in two minds.
Thanks

I have a black saddle and think it looks really smart on my grey.

I understand where you are coming from completely have you had to buy new bridles and every thing ??

Your bum covers most of it so it doesn't really matter! Reg has a black dressage saddle (and a brown bridle... shock!) and it looks very smart on him :)

What about the fact its a dressage saddle though, and i dont do dressage?
i said i wanted a saddle with a deep seat as my horse is very bouncy and that's what felt best!

Ive got a black dressage saddle and couldnt imagine having anything else.

At least you can ride in yours :D Mine was made to measure so I couldnt take mine back but Ive really struggled to adjust to it even though my last saddle was a dressage too.
It doesnt matter that its a dressage saddle as long as you and your horse are comfy. All I would say though is dont keep it if you want to jump as after a certain height, they are pretty hard to jump in. Also if you plan on showing at a decent level, change it for a brown one.

I've got a black dressage saddle as well and all I do is hack, maybe jump a small log in the woods. Got it as I felt safe in it! Could you ride in it this weekend to see if you can accept the "blackness"?

Thanks, I used to show county level but not any more, im just a happy hacker and school and maybe the odd local show, so it should be ok for all that, i dont jump high either.

As I get older, the less sure I am about anything I buy.. Hum. I have a thread on here about the horse I've just bought for goodness' sakes! I too like brown saddles but my nmare is black so I will get her black stuff me thinks!

If you're horse is dark bay did you say? Black will look lovely I think, and you like to ride in it so I'm sure it's fine :D enjoy! x

I think im getting the same as i get older too! lol I cant decide on anything today, ive been sat here for 3 hrs wondering whether to go the gym as well today!
im being silly im sure, i should just get on with it and just ride him, i liked it enough when i tried it out!

Funny isn't it. My Mum always said when my first baby was small, go with your gut instinct (ref what to dress her in when hot/cold etc) now I try and stick to that. if you can tell in first 5 mins it's right or you really like it,,,, do it! I am referring to clothing articles rather than a horse LOL but same with buying a house really. You walk in it, you like it, it may not look completely right but you feel comfortable.. Go for it :D Besdies, if you end up really not liking the black can't you get a cover for it in brown?? As I said I think horsey will look smart x

personally i think black would look better on a dark bay instead of brown as a brown leather would never be the same shade as the horse to properly 'go' together whereas black in my opinion goes with everything!!
No, im not a goth either.....!:D

I have just been through the opposite to you!! I have always had a black dressage saddle, now I have just bought a dark brown one!! I need to sell my black one as its too narrow and came accross this other one locally which fits him great and is really comfy. As long as its comfy for both of us I don;t really mind!! Plus the fact my fat backside covers most of it!!

I've a black dressage too - one word of advice though; NEVER go for a hack in a dressage saddle or you'll never be able to sit down for a week!

LOL - I hack and show (at local level) and dressage in my dressage saddle. It is so comfortable and I love it.
My saddle is/was black but when used with a havanna bridle looks very dark havanna. When used with a black bridle, it looks black. Handy :D
