Just curious - a horse that behaves better when in pain?

I'm just curious if anyone has seen this before?

The horse in question is a little git, both in saddle and on the ground when he is full of beans. So far I've handled and ridden him twice when he was in pain (after his gelding and after a sarcoid removal - riding was under vets instructions) and he was well behaved, much less opinionated. Weird creature, that one.

Probably because he had something else to focus on rather than messing about..

I'd be more inclined to say there is something else going on.. What's he like on a magnesium based calmer (like a 30 day trial of the stuff)

A friend has a mare like this. Crabby so and so to handle (fine under saddle), turned into a cuddly sweetheart when she picked up a virus. Virus went, she returned to her to her fang-faced self. Same when she tied up. Vet is v. puzzled!

I am not really in position to suggest any treatment for him.

It seems the riding school keeps him around to teach kids that not all horses will listen at all times :) He isn't unsafe, he seems to have it down to a fine art as he's been misbehaving for abot 9 years but never hurt anyone, not even a scratch.

One of mine was like that. Had kissing spine and cysts on his back and was in pain, but he's a real worker and he just kept going and trying to do his job. It was only when the pain got too bad and he wasn't jumping properly that I figured something was up.

now his issues are fixed and he's a completely different horse. feels great in himself and is way more of a handful than he was!
