Most ppl I know seem to think that all Horsey people (if you like) either go hunting or dont hunt but are all for it and thats not techincally true, I was curious as to how many ppl on the HHO Forum hunt or dont hunt and are all for it or are totally against it

I'm sure this will turn into a fight! Always wanted to go drag hunting and will do when I move back to hampshire but I'm against hunting foxes with hounds. Was on the fence for a while until I understood the argument, and I still don't agree.

I'm from a farming family and my grandparents used to get ever so cross with the hunt, mainly due to the hounds and their sheep. Every time the hunt comes up in a conversation my parents always quote "the unspeakable chasing the uneatable" (not that I totally agree...), but on the basis that if I ever hunted I would most likely be disowned by my family, I haven't hunted, but often wonder what it would be like to give it a go! =D

Therefore I voted "Totally against it etcetc", as I'm defo not a ban the ban person, yet I'm not completely against it- maybe there should be something in the middle?

EDIT- Hope I haven't offended anyone- I don't follow the whole unspeakable chasing the uneatable thing, only my parents who are not horsey and think a lot of the stuff I buy for my horse "is a rip off- the ponies on exmoor survive without it etcetc..." need I say more

I think a lot of horse people struggle with this debate, because there is the fundamental thought that killing something for fun is wrong, BUT chasing across the countryside on horseback over big hedges is bloody good fun.

So lots maybe on the fence.

Having seen the damage foxes can do to stock. I am pro hunting.

PS - Am I being thick - What is Riffel?

Thats what my mum said if a even went hunting shed kick me out so I changed the name to drag hunt and thats ok with mum lol. my Nan and I had a massive fall out one xmas over hutning argument lol tbh I may even change my mind after Ihave been hunting but atm am looking forward to going.its one of those things that I supose you have to do to find out if you like it or not

I was not brought up hunting but my ex shoots/fishes and that was my first exposure to the way of life. Everyone I met had such a passion and respect for the countryside/wildlife that eventually I changed my mind. I also think that this brings communities together; when the hunt goes out locally the whole village turns out to support. My sister lives in London and completely disagrees with me; this is something I cannot discuss at family functions! Having said this she has done everything to ensure that the foxes do not visit her garden or raid her bins as she regards them as a pest.

Pro, pro, pro, pro, pro

my motto is if it moves you can shoot it. Clearly this excludes peoples pets, pretty animals, non vermin, endangered species and non chav humans

Pmsl, love it. My one argument is us hunters are not the ones who are killing most the foxes, one year a survery read 75% of foxes killed were by those driving on the roads!
And my one argument against my nans well if there such a problem shoot them, ok well done i shoot a fiox from 100ft away and get it in the neck and not to head now ive got to find that fox to put it out of its missery before it crawls down a hole and dies slowy and in pain.

I dont hunt because I am a wuss, would probably fall off and get trampled in the space of about 10mins.

However I am a country lass therefore pro-hunting.....vermin/pest control its called.....just because it looks fluffy and cute dont mean it is, if youv'e ever seen the aftermath of a fox attack on a chicken-coop you'll know theres nowt cute or fluffy about that.

Ban the Ban!

I’m on a hunt social committee (did a 12 hour shift at a hunter trials on Sunday & got burnt to boot – that’s how much I love it!) and have moved to a hunt master’s yard so I can get a bit more in, so I think I can safely say pro
wink.gif
Though I’m still not going to vote Tory because they said they’d ban it
Come from a non-horsey, anti-hunt family but they don’t really understand either horse obsession or hunting so I’ve never brought it up (no point riling my dad when he does things like buy me a saddle for Christmas – I just didn’t tell him it was to go hunting in!).

That Oscar Wilde quote is often used in anti-hunt arguments but it was more of a condemnation of the anti-aesthetic, boorish upper class twits of the year than the actual sport of hunting.

You left an option out for people who are unsure and people who couldn’t give a toss

I did think that after I did the survery, oops. I am looking forward to my hunt and really would love to do the Boxing day one, am I right in thinking most hunt groups do boxing day hunt?

yey, hopefully ill be out to then, yet dredding all the do gooders with nothing better to do coming out with all their bnners and boards lol
up untill this year ive only ever been shooting and never with hounds so should be interesting.

Ban The Ban

As much as I do like to a see Mr Foxy and the lovely creatures that we have in our countryside, I also witness the damage they cause, lambs/chickens, not just one but the buggars go on a killing spree in one night, there are loads of them where we live and do think the numbers need controling, its not like they hunt the same patch week in week out anyway and its only a certain time of the year when they are hunted, so its not just because I like galloping across the countryside, there are reasons and as long as there is one, I shall carry on.

I agree i do love to see them and I do adore the Birtish country side and animals that live in it, but when a fox breaks into a chicken pen and kills all the chickens and yet only take away one thats annoying, they can be visious and the hounds are only huting for their dinner anyway where is the harm in that us humans used to many hunderds of thousands of years ago, going out with spears hunting our own food,

Pro, on horseback and in the car, fox and hare and drag, have shot with rifle also.

Hunting is not banned here and we welcome people from the mainland who want to come and join us.

Ban hunting and they will come for shooting, ban shooting and they will come for fishing. Of that I have no doubt.

Very pro.
Foxs/hares/rabbits/anything that pisses off Tinkerdog

Either hounds, or like I say, my grandfather is very into his terrier work so we tag along

I don't bother over here though. Far too dull.

Back home is where the fun is to be had

I must admit the ride looks incredible right up my street to gallop xc jumping hedges and so forth- must be truly thrilling - but i am upset to even see a fox dead at the side of the road so the thought of seeing one be killed or having any participation in any living creatures demise is really not up my street at all. I see and understand the argument both for and against but peronally am definately anti!

I have actualy become more interested in hunting after the ban.

I have always been against fox hunting but I like the idea of drag hunting, so I would happily attend a drag hunt (if only I had a horse
