They're absolutely gorgeous!

But why are you only posting boys, you have 3 Sighthounds, where is Millie's photo?

Complaints, and complaints, we want George photos, Colin photos, Greyhound photos, and here I start to grumble about no Millie photos. I know she's a Lurcher, but that is almost a Greyhound, so I was still expecting to see her photo, too.

Please?

Thank you Levrier, your terriers are cute but I struggle to think of you as a terrier person!
I love most dogs to meet and speak to but would not ever own a terrier. I was so surprised when my family bought a miniature dachshund and now have bred from her and have two! I am very fond of them but don’t want to own them.
I would happily own a greyhound though or go back to whippets which I once owned and bred.
It’s lucky we all like different breeds.
Your black boy is incredibly handsome ❤️??

Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between a lurcher and a greyhound. Is a lurcher of mixed breed whereas the greyhound is a pure breed? Your dogs are all gorgeous by the way and thats coming from a terrier lover.

What do you mean deceptively innocent? Look deeply into those honest eyes, and you'll almost be able to see the little cogs spinning around inside her brain. Besides, she's pretty, so she's both got looks, and intelligence!

Awwww thank you ? Yes that’s right, a greyhound is pure bred - strictly speaking Millie is a longdog rather than a lurcher as she is a cross between a sighthound and another breed (goodness knows what in her case!) whereas a ‘proper’ lurcher is a cross between a sighthound and a collie-type dog. But I’m lazy and call her a lurcher because it’s easier ?

I am quite tempted to get her DNA tested as I’d really love to know what breeds are in her, but I know it’s not an exact science so I’m a bit sceptical about the results ?

Oh Bradsmum, you will open a can of worms here! Originally lurchers were a poachers dog . Cross a sighthound with a working dog to get speed and a kill with brains . Most popular Greyhound/collie. It gradually got more complex than this and whippet/ bedlington was a small version. Whole books have been written about the history.
Sadly these days, anything with a bit of sighthound in it is called a lurcher. My daughter has a rescue called a lurcher that is whippet/ greyhound....two sighthounds so not technically correct.
I am sure Levrier knows just as much as me and will be back. When I had my first lurcher she was specifically bred and came from Lambourn where there was a huge show each year. Norfolk was a popular breeding place too.

We’ve got training this afternoon - I love doing that with her, you really can see the little cogs spinning round as she works out what she needs to do to get the maximum amount of rewards ? She is so darned clever it’s scary!

I remember David Hancock lurchers, which proved to me that I didn’t actually want a lurcher I wanted a long dog ?? But they were true lurchers weren’t they, greyhound x bearded collie and the like ?

It’s fascinating stuff, I do wonder why I got distracted onto terriers lol ?

Yes, but is not a lurcher also possibly a sighthound crossed with a terrier?? A classic being a whippet x Bedlington? I have had at least one 'offer' from a probably very dodgy but charming person to pay for Red's 'services' with their whippet bitch to beget smaller lurchers. I thought this was also traditional but perhaps there is another name for that sort of lurcher.

Well to be totally pedantic, to me that is a small longdog not a lurcher! But it has all melted down over time and I think a lot of it is personal opinion nowadays.... and let’s face it, does it really matter? ?

The Bedlington x whippet is an absolute classic small longdog/lurcher and if anyone can find me a first generation cross I will be first in the queue for a puppy! Or alternatively, if you’d like to let Red be used..... ???

Thank you for clearing up a question that has minorly bothered me for years!! I care not if a small x is a longdog or lurcher but as a child I thought that the word 'longdog' was the very best!! Thank goodness someone knows this stuff :) :)

Tbh I am not sure what a whippet x Irish terrier would be like though they were previously quite well thought of and would certainly result in something possibly wiry, definately racy and probably quite 'keen'. However, Red himself is much more of a lover than a fighter (or ratter so far...) so I think his traditional working credentials are in question. He is 18 months old and has, to date, sucked 3 mice to death....He is not quite the poacher's dream!! I do have a friend with impeccable whippets who thinks he would be a nice match as well as the dodgy contact who probably thinks a quick one in the car park will result in super-hard, ratting, hunting dogs. So far I am preserving Red's innocence of such things. :D:D:D
