Tell me about things non horsey people have been shocked or confused by...

I’ve left a lunge whip in husbands car and been sent video of his colleagues trying desperately and failing to wield it, he came home covered with welts and innuendo ?

Got a very strange look off a lady in Tesco when buying yard biscuits with a friend and mentioning how I find poo picking very relaxing...

And I’m still giggling about this popping up on my phone (face up on my office desk) after talking about picking a stallion with my mum....9051A5B7-3643-4C7D-A404-0197D34334A1.jpeg

That we'll happily eat beans on toast for a week, but would never consider cut costs with the ponies feeds.

That we start planning winter in August.

Why you spend all year clearing poo from the field only to pay someone to spread it back on in the autumn.

Getting one step of the correct movement can put you on cloud nine all week.

It's never the horses fault.

Well, goodness.

1). In tesco, ran into a horsey friend, and having both finished shopping, we queued together while we chatted. As we waited, we were discussing cleaning stuff. I said I ran my bits through the dishwasher every now and then, for a deep clean, but have to remember to rinse them well afterwards, as he complains they taste funny if I don't. Bloke behind us almost choked. I guess he didn't know about bits.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with dirty fingernails, untidy car, and bits & stirrups DO go in the dishwasher!
Housework doesn't appear on my agenda.
I've no time to cook (and no desire to).
I've no time to do the garden (and no desire to)
I prefer the company of my horse to some people
The most beautiful smell in the world is my horse.
I could go on and on.....

2). Did a favour for a friend who had a lorry with knackered ramp springs. She really struggled to get the ramp up with just her lifting, and though replacement springs would help. I said I'd look online and see what I could find. I took the make of the lorry, and the size etc. I googled Man parts. Didn't get what I was expecting.

You have to muck them out on xmas day ?
I’ve had people be quite shocked that I still have to feed them on Christmas Day!

An old Manager of mine was completely shell shocked when I said I could not attend training for 3 days as I had no-one to look after my horse.

Manager: "Well, you don't have to feed it every day, do you?"
Me: "Do you feed your children every day?"
Manager: "Erm...yes"
Me: "Well there is your answer"

I decided to leave the company not long after that conversation!

I used to tell people that no, I didn't feed them on Christmas day. I phone them up and tell them to get their own dinner.

The other day I had one of my running friends ask me if a pony grew up to be a horse. Years ago a man asked me if I was riding a foal (an Exmoor). I could go on, but I'm already depressed at the lack of human intelligence.

My non-horsey friend just doesn't get the horsey thing, end of.

Particularly she just doesn't get it that when I'm not with my horses, this doesn't mean that I'm not still thinking of them!!

She can go out and leave the cat curled up on the sofa and not think about Puss till she gets home; I meet her for coffee/cake and wonder if I should've left the horses in or out, whether I should've left fly-masks on or off, whether I should have rugged or not rugged.......
