Just for Fun - What Unusual (forbidden) Treat does your Needies lurve

I agree that as a daily diet, 'treats' are not acceptable, but the occasional naughty treat wont hurt, moderation and all that stuff.

On xmas day, my horse gets a mince pie.

He is a big fan of oranges too and also likes sticky buns (which I did not give him).

My horse has a slight kidney problem and is intolerant of high amounts of protein, sugar and alfalfa. So his treats are limited now to a mince pie, xmas day and fruit/veg in his feeds.

Marshmallows! Only at christmas mind!
Actually does anyone know if alcohol is bad for them, i've heard horses been given Guiness but never stella and we found out by accident that taf loves stella, we have a big yard and the yard owner keeps fridge beers in the forge where we clip/shoe horses and he stole a can of stella bashed it on the floor when it sprayed out he was in his element trying to catch it

My mare likes solero ice creams, apple and blackcurrant squash, bread with pickle on it, fruit bon bon sweets and apparently sprouts!! Somebody at my old yard fed them to her last xmas and she aparently tried coming through stable door for more!! Apart from the sprouts i have found these things out through them being nicked, not offered.

Magnum ice-creams (the white chocolate kind), orange calipso lollies and mini milks - she loves summer time!

This subject comes up quite frequently and I am continually baffled with WHY someone would feed their horse food that clearly has the potential to make them ill/colic. I mean, a fizzy drink, (when a horse can't burp) which is filled with additives and caffeine....

WHY??? Why risk colic?

No doubt there will now be a string of posts from people saying that they feed their horse burgers/hot dogs and other take away food etc

I wouldn't poison my own body with that cr*p, I certainly would give it to my horses.

hear hear! mine get carrots, polos (not too many) and apples. i'm so paranoid that they don't even get a whole apple at a time, just in case the acidity makes them colicky. i can't believe people let their horses eat cheeseburgers etc.

i went a tried a pony once and was told that he always had a full christmas dinner plate with the family, including turkey and gravy. honestly, wtf are these people on!?!?!
maybe it's blissful ignorance and they've never lost a horse to colic...

My boys used to be in a field with a footpath running down the side. One day a young couple had settled down for a nice, romantic picnic. That was until the horses decided to gatecrash! The marmite sandwiches and cheesecake went down a treat, apparently
