Just for fun, your most embarrassing fall......? Come on be brave!!

Not mine but my sisters.

We had one of the riding school ponies home for a rest for six months with my 8 yo sister riding him four times a week. He is 13.2hh highland pony who is the star of the RS and is still there. My 8 yo sister hadn't ridden him for two weeks due to horrid weather. So my other sister (15) thought it might be better if she got on to him first. My sister was very tall and very light so on she got. She asked for trot and he bucked her off instantly. Poor sis she had all us watching her and she still gets stick about it. My mum had to tell the RS owner which added to my sisters shame.

At a show last year a friend gave me a leg up... he must have thought i weighed twice as much as i did as i went straight up and over my 16.2hh and back down the other side onto a very shocked chap and his jack russell! :o

When I was a teenager at a local show in the handy horse/pony. There was a brolly (open) on a barrel top, you were meant to pick it up and take it over to another barrel. My pony wouldn't go that near the first barrel so I had to lean out and reach for the brolly. Once got hold of it, pony really didn't like the scary thing I had in my hand and because I couldn't get it out of his sight line, he continue to spook at this thing I was now carrying. We did an entertaining display of one handed spins with me slowly getting further and further out of the saddle until I eventually couldn't stay on any longer. The slow falls are the worst!

The judges were peeing with laughter and at the end of the day, I got a 'special' rosette from them for giving them so much entertainment... :D

So..... Captured on film.
The day very very windy poring with rain. The fall was my fault, the preceding jump I landed badly & was of balance I had not managed to compose my self.
As you can see my position and landing was terrible landed with a bit of a thump on the poor boys back. He went one way I went the other :(
I so had the wind knocked out of me and wanted to call it a day, but my instructor made get get back up and continue to jump

it wasn't even like we had been doing anything exciting like throwing ourselves over ditches.. he spooked at a hound () slipped.. (v slippy concrete track with mud layer ;) ) and went down chucking me in the big puddle next to him at the same time.

Pic courtesy of LizzieJ.. who caught my pony and probably did this  one young lad did offer me a leg up back on.. I declined his generosity!

Ps I love how armas goes back to the guys in the middle (one still with hands in pockets) as if to say.. er I left him over there..

The most embarrassing fall for me was the first time I fell off as a kid. It was my first time jumping, pony stopped and I just slid down his neck to get a mouthful of tan bark which I then rinsed out with water from a nearby hose! :D

Jackson that sounds familiar ;)

first canter..
on a grey pony aptly named cheeky.
going along a grass verge got about 4 strides .. head went down the grass I slid off ;)

After re-backing the shettie I decided to go on his first fast hack out with young girl from the yard, this would of been the first time he cantered whilst out, we had a blast and we were walking along a grass verge on the way back, Pony was very hyper and I had a death grip on the reins. Pony Put his head down to eat, I went with him and the saddle came with me and ended up on his neck!!

And then there was the local show, First time shettie had been ridden at a show and was extremly hyper, Might as well show this one in pictures

And the judge had to help me get back on, The saddle slipped when Ted ducked out.

And finally Ted's first time over poles (click to play)

These are brilliant! My funniest fall was when jumping a RS pony with no stirrups as they were too small for my feet :o there were 3 bounce jumps in a row- said pony wasn't very good at jumping, managed to get over 2 of the jumps and then stopped at the third. I sat up and relaxed, and was just about to turn away from the jump and try them all again when little pony decided she was going to jump it from a standstill- at this point i was looking the other way and my reins were a little loose. She leapt over the jump, i felt her start to go so threw myself forwards so i wouldn't fall off the back and rapidly tried to grab my reins- she was a sweet, honest pony and felt me wobbling around, so as soon as she's finished the jump she stood dead still- but I was still propelling myself forwards, so ended up doing a perfect forward roll down her neck, and my grabbing for the reins resulted in me accidentally getting hold of the headpiece- when I stood up in front of the surprised-looking pony, I was holding her entire bridle! I laughed so much I fell back down again, it was a shame no-one in the viewing gallery had a camera at the time!

These have cheered grumpy old me up slightly.
Mine was fairly recently. I was riding my horse through a very busy village one saturday morning- He was a little lively but riding choice in my area is limited so i carried on. He suddenly launched into the most enormous bucking fit for no reason. I managed to stay on for what felt like ages (long enough to gather a little crowd of onlookers and stop cars in both direction) before i came flying off and bounced along the road for quite a way. Cue everyone jumps out of their cars and run to see if im ok. I was mortified but horse had buggered off so i had to get him first and make my way painfully home of course stopping along the way to explain to every passer by why i was not on the horse...erm because its only embarrassment enableing me to even walk right now!

Cantering along, stick in middle of path.
I was ready for swerve left
I was ready for swerve right
I was not ready for stop dead and went straight over his head :D

Trotting horse up to show lovely floaty trot. Slipped and fell over, scared the horse and got dragged (field had been sprayed with treated human effluent :o)

Managed to fall over without even getting on. Foot slipped in stirrup and I fell off block and under horse :o Some people on the yard actually did wet themselves.

Mine was probably when I was about 16 and I was having a jumping lesson with a new male instructor who I fancied like mad and thought was absolutly devine!
I told him my horse jumped like a stag, we jumped 4ft, won this, won that blah blah.
My horse ( who was actually a very good jumper) decided to teach me a lesson in being humble by doing a dirty stop at the warm up x-pole projecting me over it like a human canon ball! It hurt and then I burst into tears as well. I still cringe now when I remember!

When I was about 9 I remember riding a horse called Topper - he was one of the largest horses at the riding school and had a docked tail... anyway, we went off single file down a track in the woods. For some daft reason I decided not to lean forward when we went under a low branch but to lean back...... I was swept along his back and dropped off behind him - Oh the shame!! :o

Years ago, out on a hack with RS, I was given a small native pony who was known as the school plod, as we had a new rider who needed the larger horse I usually rode. Hacked for a mile or 2 in walk, with me muttering about being on the 'beginners' pony. Get to a field and we decide to cross it to get to the woods on the other side. My legs were by now quite sore, trying to keep the wee darling from stopping dead, so slipped feet out to stretch out....just as we hit the grass! Cue sir plod along taking off at full pelt, me totally off balance and frantically trying to find my stirrups. At the far end of the field, just as I was thinking I might manage to stay on, there was a ditch. I jumped it, pony didn't! Landed on the other side, stood up, lost my balance and fell in. The ride of shame home soaked to the skin and with the ass hanging out of my jeans will remain with me forever. I loved that pony!:D

I had one of these (no audience except the horse, who seemed to find it funny). Cantering along track, hedges on both sides, track turned left, on the outside of the bend was a gap in the hedge. Can't remember much about the difference of opinion but assume there must have been one because the next thing I knew I was sitting in a patch of nettles looking up at horse looking down at me looking very surprised! He was a very genuine boy and didn't give people a reason to fall off very often :D

Not many embarrassing ones, all boring, but my first one was the best. Was about 9. Was out for a hack at my RS and was at the back of the ride. Pony suddenly decided he wanted to be at the front. Have a blurry memory of streaking past the ride (at least 20 horses in my memory :D) after which he stopped dead and I fell off plop in front of instructor's horse. When we got back to the yard the woman holding the gate open for us said to me 'you're white!'

I have only had three falls in the last twenty years.

Two were out hunting when the horse fell, always in slurry, and always with a large audience - hurt pride more than embarrasment, and I injured the same shoulder both times.

The first time was on a racetrack, Lingfield as I remember. We had gone to work some young horses, it was also a jockey training day so dozens of people there, mine whipped round on a dime, deposited me on the floor and beggared back off to the stables. Bang slap infront of a whole bunch of people, it is bad enough coming off, but losing your dratted horse as well ...... :o I still had his bridle in my hand though. ;)

I have had many, but I think the most embarrassing was at an Open pony club xc. All these little kids going round the course, then me, 37yr old on a big 16.2hh (Benson) towering over them all set of, got to the 2nd jump, and promptly catapulted myself straight over his head. We had travelled for almost 2 hours to get there, all for me to jump just one jump!!!!

Armas - that video is brilliant! I love how the horse is plodding around like a complete donkey and then does that! Haha.

I have two.. Funnily enough on the same pony and both not long after I started riding!

My favourite - I was learning to jump, was about 7 yrs old on a little 12hh pony, in a menage with no gate. Jumped over a small cross pole which resulted in me being in front of the saddle on her withers. Sitting there quite casually, she then decided to trot out of the menage, and into the yard where the feeds had been nicely lined up along the fence line.... She then put her head in a feed bucket, que me putting my hands on the fence, her shooting backwards and me landing face first in a feed bucket! Hi-fi does not taste very nice!

Second one - Hacking out on the same pony on a nice dry day, with someone walking next to me. Walking past an open barn and a man was in there putting his wellies on, but she hadn't seen. She shoots left, I shoot right, straight into the ONLY puddle for miles. Poor little me sat there soaking wet whilst being laughed at by the man and the person walking with me!

Who doesn't love those cheeky ponies?? Haha ;)

I did, one of those moments when you are convinced you are still on board as you still have the reins, but really you're learning to fly? Lol. It did look a bit of an ouchie one!!

I'd been riding for about seven years, and was hacking out a lovely RDA pony with some friends. We stopped to have a chat and he put his head down to eat some grass taking me with him...

I'm almost ashamed to post this :o We were cantering over a pole, and yes, my mother does shout bum at me...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QULnposE8Pk&feature=plcp

lol that looks almost like a deliberate dismount. It's just so casual. I can't even see the point where you lost balance :D

Two stupid ones from me
1. Escorting a client on a hack , my big hoss starts being silly, refusing to go forward on a blind bend on a bridleway, i push her on, 2 mountain bikers shot round the corner, big hoss' s head also shoots up and gets my nose, which breaks and bleeds, a lot, i fall off, cos it hurts so much, big hoss takes off at speed for home, for reasons not clear to me, client also falls off:rolleyes: and poor cyclists are trying to stop the blood pouring from my nose. My mare gallops back to yard ( its a v quiet gated road) and arrives back covered in blood, triggering my boss and everyone on yard into a complete blind panic, convinced that I and possibily client are dead in a ditch. I have to walk client and her horse back to yard, with a huge swollen and bloody nose.
2 . Off a motionless horse, hacked out with v compatent teenage rider with a spooky new horse, we see a parked bus and decide to let his horse have a look, mine is standing completely still, the air brakes go off and my horse shoots to the side, i come off and lots of lovely older ladies get off the bus to see if i need help, the shame oh and then because my horse was huge and i am not at all springy, have to do the walk of shame until i can find a fence to clamber back on. To give him his dues, teen rider managed not to laugh until we got back to the yard

Hmm I used to fall off a lot (I had a wannabe rodeo bull!) but the most embarrassing...definitely at an ODE bringing on an 8 year old. We were first onto the XC at Tweseldown, which already wasn't a good idea, he thought we were running away from everyone and although he never naps, he can get a little upset...so we leave the starting box at a speedy speedy canter, go for a few strides then just as we start to go round the hill he realises that his new mates were back at warm up and stopped dead spinning round to the right, me promptly off on the floor (still holding reins thank goodness! He enjoys running away in open places!) and this is all in view of the family friend who is on the tannoy tower, who can see me. He also had the tannoy on whilst he was laughing and telling everyone else what had happened. I promptly vaulted back on and charged onwards (clear round the whole way, even though he really wanted a friend, he was a little confused about the whole running on his own after seeing no one else charge off in front of him). So I crossed the finish, dusty from my dismount to all my friends and their parents laughing at me...

Not a fall per se, more an inelegant dismount. I used to ride a lovely, quirky, if slightly homely cob called Tommy whose party trick was "dropping" when relaxed/at the end of a ride. I went for a hack on him one day and did a rather too enthusiastic dismount (chucked my right leg way over), did a sort of gymnastic movement and ended up sitting right underneath him with his "tackle" about an inch from my right cheek.

To add insult to injury there was a selection of assorted staff, other liveries and parents on the yard at the time.

P

quietly walking along the bridle paths past the cafe with picnic tables outside, something shot out of the bushes ahead and my ex loan pony spooked and span. My saddle slipped so I bailed and landed on my feet, the shock made me pass out for a few seconds so I was lay in the mud still holding said pony with his saddle round his tummy in front of loads of bemused people having a quiet lunch. That'll teach me to double check my girth eh!
