Just Giving To The BHS - £1000.00!

I reckon we need to set a new target to achieve by the end of the weekend - we may as well keep this momentum up for a while. We will almost all be seeing/speaking to fellow horse lovers who we can encourage to donate. Suggestions for new target?

£2000.00? We acchieve a thousand in a couple of days

Im sure we can reach that

That's awsome, haven't got around to donating yet as my card is in negative money but will see if I can borrow mums cards and pay her back.
I think it's fab what a group of people with a common interest can achieve!

I was thinking of £5,000 Brontie. I know that seems a lot but just think what we've done in 24 hours. If everyone on here gets two people to donate....... It's just an email to friends/family with a link. I know we can do this........

As someone said somewhere else (sorry, whoever it was!), would it not be good also to channel some of this momentum to the boys' new home? Any bright ideas on how this might be done, as we're not publicising it on here (though it has been elsewhere)?

Right - offciial target is now £5,000 to be achieved by 8 am Monday morning ('cos that's when I'll be logging on to check!!). Get emailing, all you lovely HHO people!

My finances aren't in the best state at the moment so I'm not in a position to donate just yet, but it's top of my list once I'm straightened out.

Also, it's my birthday next month and I'm going to ask for someone to pay for gold membership to the BHS for me... was thinking of doing it anyway but this whole saga has made my mind up. I can't think of a better way to spend my money!

burnttoast:

this maybe where the just giving works better than a direct BHS donation.

The BHS know where the money is coming from and why and therefore may well siphon it off in the right direction for their care as we don't want it widely known where they are being kept.

I don't know this but am guessing that the BHS will want to keep an interest in these two and will be able to direct the money appropriately.

WELL DONE!!!!

An amazing effort

- just to let you all know when I told Lee last night that you were all donating (and we didn't have details or where or how) he said to direct it to him and he will make sure that it goes to the place caring for Carrot and Spud.

So every penny you give will go direct to make Carrot and Spud better - paying for their vets, farrier, dentist, feed etc etc

I'm sure they would give you all a big Carrot and Spud cuddle for your help

Prevention is better than cure.

if some of you had decided to actually JOIN the BHS long before giving a small donation to a "media case" i'm sure the money could be better utilised...

just my opinion..

This actually makes me very uncomfortable - I would much rather the money went where it was needed most urgently regardless of the profile of the case. When I donate to a charity I donate to the charity itself rather then one specific recipient. I may donate in response to a particular case highlighted in the press but I donate because I believe the charity are doing good work.

You are entiteld to donate your money where you see fit - others may choose to support 'cause' - can't please everyone all the time.

almost too late in this case, wouldn't you agree?

Well, thanks to "us lot" the place looking after C&S now have an extra two rather needy mouths to feed (etc), and somebody has to foot the bills. Although the ultimate recipient of the Just Giving money may be the BHS (wherever it is then sent), the page is headlined with the Stamford Horses and I suspect that's where the majority of donors on this occasion would like/expect their money to go. Speaking personally, I make other charitable donations when I can, and have BHS membership; this is the kind of money I would expect to go into the "general" pot.

Dr Weevil, I discussed this yesterday, everyone donates to charity differently, I'm not sure anyone should have to validate the charities they donate to, why or when they donate. Donating to charity is often a very personal thing and I think you have to see this as each to there own.

JM, you make a good point but again, each to their own on this one for the reasons I gave above and the way you have written your post I think makes quite big assumptions, it is possible that all of these people are already members of the BHS.
