As you may see from my last posts had to have pony pts last week just had a £400 vet bill not inc vat, the vet took him to be cermated as he told me it would be cheeper! Just lost my job and they want payment in 14 days does this sound expensive to any one? help!!

Speak to your vets and explain the situation. Most of them are really brilliant and will let you pay it off bit by bit.

Very sorry to hear about your pony.

If it is £400 including treatment and disposal then it is probably cheap. The hunt charges about £300 now to take a horse away and if you wanted to cremate a horse yourself it is approx £600.

I'm sure if you spoke to them they will sort something out for you. Sorry to hear about your pony

I am so sorry but it doesnt seem excessive as it cost nearly 300 for my 18 year old cat. I know this is no help as I like you am out of work but at least you arent being ripped off. Take the advice talk to your vet lets face it they wouldnt treat animals if they were Darth Vadar!

Next time you fill up at the petrol station try leaving several post-dated cheques, tell them its legal and let me know how you get on.

Rather than confronting your vet with a fait a complis phone them to discuss your situation.

Every practice will strike a deal with you, vets are mostly reasonable and sympathetic people. What vets cant stand is clients who disappear, don't respond to reminders, don't respond to final demands, leave an unpaid bill because they know it's too small to chase and then re register under another name . Sadly it happens on a regular basis.

Go and see your vet and ask for time to pay, they are really good about situations like this and I'm sure will help you.
It's normally between £100 and £200 for euthanasia so if you had a previous visit plus drugs plus vat that accounts for the money

I am sure your vet would rather get the money a bit at a time than not at all. Go see them and explain, they can't get blood out of a stone afterall but at least they will know the situation. You may be charged a small admin fee for not paying within the time scale but most vets are sympathetic (especially in the circumstances).

I believe that writing post dated cheques is now illegal. I would echo most other people - talk to them about pying it off in installments. If they were to take you to court this is all that would happen anyway so its not in their best interest.

I agree with those who have said speak to your vets. On more than one occasion I have had to pay in installments when I have had a large bill. My vets are always happy for me to do this as long as I discuss it with them. Please don't panic about this bill, I am sure it will be easily resolved.
I am very sorry to hear about your pony.

I used to work for a debt collection agency that dealt mainly with vets.

They are normally happy for you to make staged payments so long as you dont take the piss!! send them a cheque for say £100 each month and they will be happy that they are not chasing you or spending their profits on debt collection.

Just make sure you are consistant and dont leave months and months between payments.
