Just goes to show after years of competing in eventing, hunter trials and hunting that you have to be just as safety conscience on a hack!

My horse was feeling great so I decided to canter him on the grass verge next to the road all was fine so i turned around and cantered back next thing I know Im on the ground and my horse is coming down on top of me then I wake up in a house!
Iv never been knocked unconscience before and no idea what made my horse flip over. My memory is a bit shocking at the moment and my muscles and head are in a serious amount of pain.

Glad I always wear my hat but kinda wish i had the bp on now esp as its a bank hol here so looks like il be stuck in bed for the day,

Id say he tripped in a rabbit hole or something so that teaches me for
cantering him on grass im not that familiar with.

Can anyone tell me how long it usually takes for memory to return if at all :(

ya im just trying to sort something out, its a bit awkward on saturday afternoon on a bank hol to find a doctor in my area!

I think it depends tbh, when my son had his accident ko'd ( roller blades and head hit kerb ) the wee beggar took his helmet off !! He had a memory delay of around 10 mins and never fully regained knowledge of the accident but has a vague memory of a woman in a red car shouting at him to get up off the road.
It took several hours for the delay to go, very strange to get the answer to a question 10 mins later, especially when playing eye spy en route to hospital
Its not worth the risk not to go to A&E to be honest, please get checked asap

Marydoll, sorry but this made me chuckle, Not funny at all but just the bit about the eye spy!

I had bad concussion once when a horse bolted onto a road with me and then slid over as soon as it touched the tarmac and I landed on my head, strangest thing ever, I have not much memory of what happened, just remember being out of control on horse and then the next thing being taken to casualty and people were asking me questions like name address and what day it was and at the time my mind was completely blank and I couldn't answer any questions! Luckily by the end of the day my head was back to normal apart from headache!

You definitely need to be seen by doctor ASAP as concussion can be very serious!

Doctors on the way! need a note from him before I go to an A & E.
So annoyed that this has happened on what should have been a nice relaxing hack
It really is such a weird sensation where I just kind of half know what happened but cant be 100% sure!!

So glad to hear you're ok, that sounds horrific! Hope horse is unharmed too. You need to be very careful for a few days, I once collapsed two days after being knocked out so take it easy! In my experience, memory does improve over 24-48 hours but you might not remember everything. Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you ok. I had concussion last year after a fall sj and still can't really remover it or getting to a and e x

Glad you getting checked out.

I never regained a section of memory when I fell off jumping a XC jump when my lad was green and knocked myself out. I fell off quite a distance after landing from the fence. I can only remember thinking uhoh just after take-off when he put in a massive leap. Can't remember jumping the jump or falling off in the field on the landing side. However, I think I was only knocked out for a two or three minutes from accounts by my OH.

However, I could not ride from a month - the world went spinning/blurry whenever I moved my head

Hope you recover quickly

Eeek! Hope you're ok. Definitely get checked out, not worth the risk! I lost my memory after falling off my horse, also on a hack (i think!) on my own and my memory of that day has never come back to me even after 20 years! Doctors at the time said it would come back to me one day. Annoyed me for a long time not knowing what happened, now don't want to know as I don't want anything putting me off taking my new baby out for hacks!!

Was KO'd on a hack last year, had to take an ambulance ride and needed a ct scan as my vision went funny, kinda closed in on one side, can't really describe it.

Cant remember much of that day or the next one, so its not at all unusual.

Very important to get checked after a head injury though and don't forget to replace your helmet even if it looks fine!

Alfirules, i can laugh at it now and it is funny, at the time it was awful, i was so worried, the conversation was like grounghog day.
He'd say " my heads sore" (me) " youve fell off your blades and banged your head" (him) " ma blades, are they all right" ?
Then we'd chat and hed ask to play eye spy, we'd start the game then cue " my heads sore" etc then id get " telegraph pole" !!!! From a question earlier .... Well freaky :D
He recovered well, but it was a weird couple of days.
Op please let us know how you get on, hope youre ok

Ouch, hope you are OK. Memory may not return, I was knocked out years ago SJ at Port Royal, to this day i have no idea what happened. (Remember the bell going and cantering towards the first, then some woman leading R back to the trailer and going is this your car?)

Having not long finished a busy shift at a hospital I'm usually the first to grind my teeth & moan about people abusing AE BUT you m'dear need to go to your nearest A&E & pronto. TBH a traumatic injury + amnesia & I'd expect a CT scan

....then when you're feeling better a brand, spanking new hat ;)

thanks guys! Just home from a and e now where i got x rayed and a CT, was given the all clear and told to stay the night but the only had trolley in the hall so I discharged myself and going to stay in my sisters bed tonight incase anything happens! and if it does she will bring me straight back in. Im feeling ok, very stiff though.
Memory isnt great but slowly coming back, im just finding it all so weird because when you go to comps you take every precaution as you expect this to happen and it never has then boom on a hack iv done 100s of times disaster strikes!

Op, I hope you get better :(

quick question, is it a bank holiday weekend this week, I didn't know it was and I'm stressing because I thought I had an exam tomorrow :/

Its a bank holiday in Ireland but not sure about anywhere else!
Of course the sun is shining and its the nicest bank holiday we probably have ever had and im stuck inside in a lot of pain

My horse is the safest thing ever and I cant even remmeber the last time i fell off him so Im so glad im not on of those people who says 'oh my horse is so safe and im not doing any jumping so i wont wear a hat'
Think id be dead if i was!!
