Mum has most likely lost her job The business was loosing money, so boss is not likely to be continuing with the business, and all staff will have about 2/3 months to look elsewhere.
She was so lucky to have this job, as it was really reasonably paid, and its the only thing keeping me riding really.. Any job she will now be able to consider, wont pay anywhere near as much as her current job is paying her, so she has been very realistic to me, and said that were not going to be able keep ponio. I am so gutted, and she feels SO guilty. I have been telling her she shoudlnt and that i am absoloutly okay and completely understand.. and i do completely understand but i am so totally gutted she has said she is going to help me find rides and is really happy to taxi me about everywhere i need to go, but we just cant afford the keep of a horse by ourselves. So greatful for her offering to drive me around everywhere..

So.. i am now on the search for rides I live in Bruton, Somerset, so if anyone knows of anything within reasonable distance, ppllleeeaseeeee let me know.

Mum is on it, at the moment (even though stuck in spain with granny - visiting her for the first time in 10yrs!) and is putting an ad out in the local paper tomorow. When she is home which will probably be on thursday, we will do a few more, and put some in tack shops etc. This is the ad in the paper:

***Talented event rider looking for rides to compete. Lack of finances forces sale of own horse. Excellent references available. Anything considered.*** (with number and website on the end)

Urghhh im just so gutted, *sorry it has turned into a bit of a moan/plea.* If anyone has and ideas id be so greatful.. PM or reply to this.

I totally hope you get some rides..
sorry, havent got any other suggestions.. as Im away up in scotland, spare horse..but dont think your mum would taxi you this far!!!!!!!!
 
Can you not look for a sharer or put your horse on full loan for a while or get a part time job to help pay for your horse? Think that's what I'd try and do.
 
Could you get sponsorship that would help pay for the horse? If big companies won't then you could try local ones to you, possibally a local riding school or instructor? Maybe if you offered to help out they could help you with your horse? Sorry to hear you're in this situation.
 
I already have a few smashing sponsors, one of whome is contributing £750 a year to my eventing and has said even though i wont havea horse of my own they will still continue to so :) Unfortunately the chap i have at the moment is on loan! So not mine to loan/find a sharer for :( it has been suggested in CR that i dicuss a financial contribution with the owner, but that was precisely the reason she loaned him out... feel very guilty as we havent had him long, and promised a long term home :( :( poor lady x
 
Sorry to hear your bad news but congratulations on your incredibly adult and positive approach.

I dont know what your overall financial situation is so apologies if I am offering duff advice also I dont know what your work/study committements are. Having said that here are some more ideas that might help? presume horse is already on DIY? have your drawn up a spreadsheet with all your equine costs so you can really see what your short fall is? could you then make up the gap with either more sponsorship or explain the situation to your sponsers and see if they could increase it a bit/recommend another person. Could you take on another or part time job to make up some of the difference? or could you talk to your sponsers/get a business plan to get a couple of horses up and running and sold (say mid season). Appreciate that its not a good market but horses with a track record who are straightforward are still selling. Or alternatively advertise for horses like this with people who are struggling to sell and see if you could put some history on the horses record to help sell them - and you get X % of the value (tba upfront and in writing!)

Thanks for that :D We were just about to move to a DIY yard where there was just stables and land, as we were struggling money wise already.. Have added up all the costs and everything, including diesel and unfotunatley its just not viable :( Had some really good suggestions from here and my post on CR, so can hopefully put some of those into practice and see what happens :) (i am still in secondary school unfortunately! I have a very small part time job, but couldnt make up for the keep of a horse) So here goes the searching!! :( lol im sure something will come out of it, its just having the right contacts, and knowing the right people!! :p

can I just say (hopefully without sounding condescending!) that I'm so impressed by your outlook on this real bumber. I'm sure something will come along for you.

Thank you so much :) a lovely local HHOer has offered me the chance ride a few of thier horses. everyones been so great on here, and really helpful..

Which horse do you have to sell?
Your webby says your horse is no longer eventing and is being show jumped by a chap instead, and the youngster you are bringing on is owned by someone else.
Can't these people carry on paying for the two horses?

This could turn out very long winded but i will try to explain the current situation :P The younster (well, green 6yr old!) we are currently loaning, and after mum loosing her job we cant afford to pay for him anymore, so he is having to go back to his owners :( And Rocky who is showjumping, is with them pretty much free of charge for a year, (we just pay entires) then they are going to sell him for us next spring. They will just take 10% of whatever he sells for... The reason im not ridng him, is because he wont event, and absoloulty loves his sjing... my plan is that in a years time, i will have almost left school, so the money we get for him can go toarwds a new horse, by which time i will be working and will be able to fund myself and wont be reliant on mum... The reason were not going to sell him now and buy something, is because we'd only be able to spend half of it on a horse, as wed have to keep the other half for running the horse so our money would kind of be wasted.. Where as in a years time, he will be worth at least double as much if his record carried on to like it is, so i will be able to spend most of that on a half decent horse, and i will be able to support it with my own money :) Does that make sense to you ? :p x
