I got to Leo this afternoon and he was colicing. Waited a little as is was spasmodic and then called the vet who referred him to liphook. Took him down and they want to keep him in intensive care and there is some displacement around the kidneys and spleen. 50/50 chance of surgery.

.

Anyone else been through this?

This year Jim's had colic twice, both of which involved a displaced spleen. Both times he's been starved & walked & eventually everything went back in the right place without the need for surgery so fingers crossed Leo will be the same.

Good luck, I'll be thinking of you both.

If it helped I used to work there for four years as a nurse in the theatre - they are the best. They will only operate if it is needed and if they do they have every facility and the highest standards possible. Which vet is looking after him? I hope he's ok though - keep us posted.

He is in the best place, I used to work at Liphook and the vets are great. I hope he is better

Hey, thanks for all of your good wishes. He is better this morning - just got back from seeing him. Still some distension but alot better. They are starving him today and will try him on feed tomorrow. All looking good so far. I've got everything crossed! Thanks again x

hi hugs for you. my horse had colic op on the 26th march this yr iam now back to riding him and he is the same horse he was before. i was really worried and didnt know if he would make it he was that poorly. i rode today for our 20 walk that was actually a 30 minute buck prance and jog! fingers crossed yours will be fine too

my friends horse on our yard came down with colic last week, was rushed straight into surgery and had twisted gut. Ironically it was caused by a tumor that had wrapped itself around the gut!!! and caused a blockage.

Hes back home now and getting better so there is some hope! the vet gave him a 50/50 chance aswel.

Fingers crossed for him

My old lad was taken to liphook a couple of years ago for colic op. All the staff were fab. He stayed in ITU for 4/5 days and then came home as normal
