Just looks wrong?!

I can't say I like any of the videos posted on this page, even the uk hackney... Am I right in thinking that the straps that create the exaggerated high head carriage were shortened just before it moved off...

I seem to recall they were called bearing reins in Black Beauty. And it was the trend to do them up exceedingly tight in order to hold the head in that uncomfortably high position.

I believe it is an overcheck (or a bearing rein if you've read black beauty) and I guess they have to let it off when the horse is stood up to assess it conformation so they were probably putting it back on I guess?

The way Arabs are turned out for shows in the US is not the same as over here. The AHS have strict rules about clipping off hair and the overuse of make up/vaseline/oil.

15. TRIMMING AND CLIPPING

Pure Bred Arabians - Tactile hair must not be
removed. Eyelashes must be left uncut. Removal
of hair from inside the ear is forbidden. Forelocks
must be left free. No coloured products are
permitted on hooves.

All exhibits - No alteration to the natural colour
of the coat or skin is permitted.
It is recommended that the use of oils and clear
make-up on horses exhibiting in the show ring is
kept to a minimum. A judge may disqualify a
horse, who in their opinion is wearing excessive
make-up and /or oils.

The horse in the video would look very different if he was in his natural state. I said it before, but I'll say it again - he's a nice horse under all that excess clipping and oil. The extended bridle path does not become him at all and he'd look a lot nicer with a full mane.

Hate those first two videos, just horrid. The first ponies movement is totally unnatural and of course has been exaggerated somehow - there are a few really horrid methods they use in the US so I assume its one of those... can't think of any nice ways to make a horse move like this. I absolutely hate seeing these videos of these classes on You Tube, they look horrible and the way they ride them looks dreadful too - the riders all look extremely uncomfortable and sit so far back which cannot be comfortable for the horse, all horses have their last rib in the same place, I know my horses would likely buck me off if I sat past that point!

The first video looks awful & wrong especially when compared to this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK1vXcpMj3k which is how I expect a Hackney to move.
The American trend to try & make Hackney ponies into miniature saddlebreds is worrying.
How much vaseline is that Arab wearing?

there does seem to be a trend in the USA to exaggerate certain traits to the extreme, the end result usually looks obscene to us but they seem to like it. I am not saying just the USA but certainly the majority of examples do seem to come from them rather than any where else before anyone accuses me of being anti USA. The Japanese do it to goldfish, all those bubble eyes and extra fins etc.

SHOCKING, that poor horse being driven just reminded me of a spider trying to move quickly with broken legs. Not too impressed with the arab either way to exaggerated and as someone else said very long in the back. Why do they ride the horses so far back?
