TBH, if they needed you that much, they'd be open to negotiation.
They're a business at the end of the day, so you're probably right. I'm just going to keep my head down, carry on and look elsewhere. It's a relatively small business so they lack a HR department, which I believe in circumstances like this would've been helpful. You need some rubbish things to happen sometimes for good things to come to light anyway.
