Rant alert!

I'm selling my logging harness that came with my horse. We don't use it and she's getting on a bit, so I thought I'd make a bit of room in the tack room.
So I created an advert on FB clearly stating location, price and size. So far I've had messages like 'Price?', 'location?' (that one really annoyed me as I responded politely with my location and got "too far" in response. I did say in my ad that I could organise courier delivery but I didn't bother responding to that) and 'will this fit my 18.2 shire?'. How the bloody hell should I know?!
What is the matter with people? Have they a) lost the ability to read, and b) forgotten basic manners? Is your time really so precious that you can't add please?
Maybe I'm just turning into a crotchety old lady, but it really irritated me.

same with me...given up with people altogether. Nobody reads, comprehends, or uses their brain anymore. I do get annoyed if people HAVEN'T posted the important information in the actual post and instead resorts to the comments section that gets buried quickly. I don't have time for that...(and I find it extremely annoying on ebay when people don't post the most relevant/important information!)
 
I've stopped bothering to sell on facebook now. So many people just messaging for the sake of it.

But on the other side of it - buying on marketplace is becoming a nightmare too. We wanted to get a 'new to us' picnic bench for the yard. I nearly got scammed buying a wooden bench! I mean - it was about £70! surely people have better things to do with there time.

I think we are in a particular age where people who want to make quick and easy cash scamming people have the world at their beck and call. It's far easier for them to sell this cr@p and it's harder and harder for legit buyers to find who is scamming. I've found a few things on Etsy being re-sold at a much higher price than the actual retailer and sold as "custom made". yeah...ok....

Try being self employed with having a lot of customers, and therefore regular new customers and enquiries, no-one Googles anymore either! We all spend time and money on websites and social media pages but it seems it's much easier to message and ask.

I rarely bother with Etsy. It's like those 'Artisan' craft fairs where everything is in fact cheaply made in China/Malaysia/insert far away country of choice. Overpriced tat.

My first port of call is normally FB Marketplace for secondhand goods, most recently hiking boots. The number of ads that had one badly taken photo with no size was astonishing. Drives me nuts.
 
My solution is to reply with things like "the location in the ad & the map are correct," and "the information in the ad is correct." The lazy ones get filtered out, the genuine ones get the information they need, the people having real trouble finding the info can clarify.... and I get to feel like I've called them an idiot without seeming too rude. :)

I'm sure I lose some sales but oh well.
 
Yes.. I know what you mean.. I am selling a stock saddle. I’ve put all sizes, width. Seat size. Girth size. Every single thing I can think of , even what type horse it’s likely to fit.. still asked for numerous measurements, pictures, what condition ( it’s new with labels) where it’s located. Post cost.
It’s all on the post. Do people not read the adds 🤔🤔
 
This isn't a new thing, as I remember having these issues years ago when I bought and sold tack as a bit of a hobby. Back then the internet didn't exist so everything was advertised in those free ads papers that have long since disappeared. Even though the advert clearly stated size, colour, price, condition and the name of the town you'd still get phone calls asking for all the same info. These days people are lazy, they look at the photo then contact you. It's maddening.
 
I’m advertising a couple of rugs. I got a message from someone saying they were interested, they needed them asap. They also wanted to know about some boots I’ve had listed for over a year. I said I’d need to check I could still find them.
I was away at the time so said I’d be home in a couple of days and would check then.
Messaged as soon as I was home to say I’d found the boots if she was interested.
No reply
A couple of weeks go by, I sell one of the rugs in the meantime.
Another message from that person asking if they were available. I said one had sold. No further response.
Wonder if she’ll message again next week for these urgent rugs.
