Just not happy with our noseband.

As per title…
She is currently in a grackle, she has a tendency to lean, but is uncomfortable with pressure on her nose. The grackle is just not doing it for us, I don’t think either of us are 100% happy. The bottom loop slipped off yesterday and she went brilliantly while it was off. So I feel like she would be happier without her mouth strapped shut? But she tends to be a bit of a bolter if she gets spooked so I’d be worried of not having enough control if it happened. Anyone have any ideas? Thinking of just trying a plain cavesson but worried she’ll lean a lot on me…

My horse who can be difficult was always ridden in a grackle.
I actually don’t mind grackles at all, but think about when she p’s off, what does she actually do?
Does she cross her jaw to evade? If not the grackle is making no difference anyway.
Mine ducks back behind the contact and no grackle is helping that so I did away with it. He’s in a regular cavesson which I prefer, he seems completely unbothered either way but I’d give it a try and see how you get on.

Yes I think she would really get upset in a kineton.

I’m going to give the cavesson a shot and have a look about switching bits, I’m so not an expert in all this it scares me 😱 just want my girl to be comfy!

Those do look good, Dave’s Mam, but pricey!! I might try the cavesson and see what happens first lol but will definitely keep them in mind.

Yeah, I'd go for that first. I hope you get sorted.

I would try a kineton as it may be the strap under the chin and not the nose pressure that is causing the problem.
She hates pressure from the nose strap on a headcollar too, and even from your hand. So I’m pretty sure that it would upset her. The chin strap could not be helping either though.

I was just looking at different bits, does anyone have any experience of the PeeWee, do you think it might work for us?

My cob can be strong and has known to 'b*gger' off - although this is VERY rare. He doesn't have a noseband but is hacked in a pelham so there are brakes if needed but otherwise the contact is kept very light. This might be worth considering but if your horse doesn't like a curb chain then it might be a no-go.

As a western rider, I haven't used a noseband in 15 yrs on a bitted bridle. It's entirely unnecessary IMO and just another bit of leather to fiddle with or clean. And it won't make any difference to tanking off.
See my answer on your other thread OP.
