Just opened a nice letter from my veterinarian stating that he and his clinic will no longer be doing farm calls and treating large animals.
He has been a wonderful and reasonable vet and I am not sure what I will do now. He is the only one in my area

They said they will be keeping meds, vaccines etc on hand for purchase in the clinic but will only see large animals there on an emergency basis but they must be brought in

What now?

The only other equine vet I know of is over an hours drive away and they cost a FORTUNE! I had them when I lived in their area and I cannot imagine what they would charge to come this far..or if they even will

That is just it. There is no other clinic nearby.

They state in the letter that they are attmpting to locate a replacement large animal vet to work out of their practice but have "been unable to locate a veterinarian suitable to you as clients"

There's a real shortage of large animal vets. Why go out in the weather and deal with large beasts that can do you a real injury when you can stay in and deal with nice kitties and puppies. Plus you can see way more kitties and puppies in a day than you can horses and cows. We are lucky in that we have 3 large animal vets in the area. Hope you find someone!

Welcome to the 'vetless and what the fk do I do' club. My vet is about to leave the country and I dont know what I will do

.As long as its daft things I can cope and the annual jabs can be done by the local idiot vet, but the important things .....?I suppose I will have to call my x boss who costs a fortune just to put his bum in the car (and he lives 100 k's away

) You have my complete sympathy my dear. M.xx

I suppose in England we are spoilt with the vets we can use. The distances involved in our country are far smaller than you have to cope with out in the States......I wish you good luck in your search

I give all shots myself so that I am not worried about really. He did state they would still be stocking the meds and vaccines *WHEW*!

It is things like stitches and injuries that have me worried

My aunt down the road is having a foal this spring and she is understandably more upset than I am about him stopping.

I will just have to hope he finds a good replacement soon. In the mean time I guess I will hope that the vet an hours drive away will come up here .

Sorry you are going through the same
