Just out of interest...

Of course, I pick my horses feet out:
1)Before they leave the stable to prevent mess and thrush
2) When the come in from the field
3) When I come back from a ride
4) When I have been riding in the school

I also wash them and oil them every day before they go to bed.

Its an important part of their routine, it allows me to check for any heat/swelling/mud fever/stones etc
It also is important that the horse has its feet handled daily to make the farriers life easier.

Yes always without fail! He lives out, but even on the days i just go and feed him i take a hoofpick down and do his feet. He's had abcesses and thrush previously. When i ride i do them before and after, including a good scrub with a brush and kevin bacon them!

-Mine have their feet washed and picked out when they come in from the field.
-when we're back from a hack/been in the school
-before they come out the stables

The liveries are all asked to pick out before leaving the stables...saves me haveing the sweep the yard and the drive 10 times a day!

I do, but wonder if the mud might be better left in as would stop the poo packing in around frog, you've got me wondering now :-(

Generally I don't when putting to bed.

However I always pick out in the morning (don't want them walking their beds over the yard) and after coming out of school ( dont want school surface all over yard either)

Always do - the pretty much always have some grit in with the mud, and it also is part of my 'legs in one piece' check as I run my hands down their legs. Just part of checking that they are still ok from when they were left in the morning! They also have their feet picked out twice aday when on 24/7 turnout. It is just our habit!

No idea if people pick out when their horses come in, have never noticed tbh! I do know that they often don't pick out in the morning as there is bedding and poo trodden all across the yard!

I do as often as poss but most of it falls out on its own as got no shoes on... when he was shod I picked out feet religiously... however.......................no-one else on my yard picks out feet EVER!!!!!

No.

Not unless a horse is footy, I intend to ride (no point getting on a lame horse eh?) or the farrier is due (reckon it's common courtesy to present him with clean dry feet and legs)

I don't care if my aisle gets muddy or mucky, if it does then it gets swept - at some stage.

Always pick then out, wash the feet off, put Kevin Bacon Hoof Treatment on and wash the frogs, spray athletes foot spray (anti-fungal) as my boy seems to permanently have thrush, bed is always clean and I muck out completely every day. Another of lifes little challenges he throws at me amongst all the others!!!

Yep, Jaspy has very deep clefts on his frogs and he's prone to thrush so they're picked out twice a day. He has Net-Tex Frog Health sprayed on once a week too.
