Just reading old thread about Gadget

Well he was a superstar then and now he's proved it. Nice to read the success stories as they're the ones we tend to hear less about unfortunaltey.

i guess we never would of known he may never of gone on to do this !! but yes sooo glad i never sold him lets just hope the next one is as good im getting on her on sunday !!

I would say at the time, those valuations were about right....he had no record, and no proof of his ability or attitude back then. Anyone who bought him would have been taking a huge punt. As it happens, you have taken the risk, and in this instance have come out trumps. You have had faith in him, and given the best chances by paying for some of the best riders to produce him.

What are your long term plans for him ? Has Louise given you a view on how far she thinks he might go ? Will you hold on to him and try and see him up through the ranks, or cash in :o

no your right Rambo i just guess i always new he was special !!

Louise really wants me to keep him for the speed derby this year which is only 2 months away - we will see its hard for me with work etc now he is at home and i have the babies to concentrate on !! I guess if the right home comes up then yes he will go but i guess its fate really i nearly sold him last year but didnt and now I got to go to the british open and watch him compete as an owner (which to be honest i wont now do again for another 4-5 years when the babies are at that level)

I do love owning him though - i just wish we could find someone to buy half of him so louise could keep the ride x

I'd be dubious about the wisdom asking a Grade C horse to gallop round Ring 2 to qualify for the Speed Derby if you want him to go on and have a fine career.

Id like to know if Tempi's YO's son's horse that was 'badminton bound' is doing any good?! It woul dbe 7 now :)

Note i said the 'badminton bound' in inverted commas in my post!! God knows what its doing now, left that yard a long time ago! Probably not much as i think owner gave up riding a few times and isnt doing that much at the moment.

The ownership 'thing' certainly gives you something back. I know the owner of Louise's other ride (Gus) in the British Open class that Gadget jumped. She got to go to HOYS last year for the Grade C final which she was thrilled about. She has the same dilemna over whether to keep him or sell him.

I'm with SJFAN though on the Speed Derby...not sure i'd want my youngster blasting around trying to qualify for that :o

oh Emma she is lovely and Steve - Gus was so unlucky !! I wouldnt say he is a youngster at 9yo really and from what i was told you would just need to go clear in ring 2 to get through but we will see im sure he would of been sold by then !!
