..... no idea why most people are there, they look so miserable. If I go to a little show, I want to do my best, prepare and turn my horse out so I feel proud of it and have a nice time - which involves smiling and being generally polite.

I have been doing some stewarding etc at the top level ... and the good riders tend to have great manners and seem to enjoy their jobs. So why at little shows do people feel it is OK to be hellish grouchy and downright rude when a polite 'excuse me ...' would work so much better and the odd smile might even make them look like people you would like to know.

Sorry for this rant, but have been lending my horse to a child who has been doing ever so well so I thought it would be motivating to do a little show. Not only did the judge manage not to put one positive thing on the dressage test (even though the score was OK) but I just remembered how absolutely moany and miserable half the horse world is.

Am I the only one who feels like this??

I get very 'serious' when competing, because I'm concentrating and a just a tad nervous.

Shame this can't be said of that judge though. The ARE supposed to be encouraging at local level aren't they......
