Just saw a meter reader kick my cat

I am livid.

A certain electric company from this end of the country, just sent a meter reader round. This is a very quiet culdesac and the cats tend to go and sit by people's cars or whatever, because of the heat after it's been switched on I think.

I heard a load of banging and went to the window to see what it was, and saw that the meter reader was here opening the box. As he walked back to his car and saw my cat, he kicked him

I got the key to open the window to shout at him but was too late as he was in his vehicle by then, but I gave him a stinking look which he definitely saw.

I have tried to complain to the company but no luck so far. I will definitely complain and will no longer use this company, which to some of you will seem silly, but I am so flippin' livid. This is Tigger's home and he was a rescue cat from Cats' Protection League; this has happened to Tigger before when a mobile meat seller came round and scooped him up with his foot and flung him, IN OUR HOUSE, giving the reason 'sorry I don't like cats'. Well, that's fine, but we didn't invite him in and didn't even want his flippin' meat! What is it with people!?
 
OMG!!

That is utterly disgusting! Who the hell do people think they are to do that to an animal of any kind? Some kids tried to do that to my cat a few years ago...I ran out of the front door, screaming like a banshee at them.

Some people should have the same treatment or worse given to them and not be allowed the defend themselves, see how they like it

I hope you get through to make a complaint, what about calling the RSPCA and getting them to visit the kickers place of work for a chat! That might make him think twice.

I would really kick up a stink! Please let us know what happens.

He physically kicked the cat?! That's so unecessary, as someone who doesn't really like cats myself I would never feel the need to hurt them.. Good on you for reporting him, if enough people report him the company will need to do something about. As said by someone else it's worth at least speaking to the RSPCA as he could have seriosuly injuried your cat by kicking it, they may be able to contact the company and tell them they need to take action against their staff or face the consequences.
I'm really quite furious for you and I don't even like the little critters!

Hehe. I am the same with dogs. I love big bounding collies and retrievers etc, but I don't like them curling round my feet, licking me or panting in my face. But like you, I would never hurt one. What kind of man is he!?

Tigger seems OK at the moment. Just a bit shocked I think.

I think I'll do the RSPCA as well.
 
i'm not a cat lover either, had to drive round one today who decided that the middle of the road was his bedroom!, i also wouldn't see any harm done to a cat. Might be worth calling the RSPCA. my kids saw a bloke kick 7 bells out of his dog once and they called the RSPCA who did send someone out to have a chat to the bloke. Keep trying to get through to his company as well. Did you get his name ?

I don't like cats much either, and hiss them off my veg garden quite often. Persistant 'offenders' might even meet a water pistol in summer

You know on moneysavingexpert.com there is a messageboard and that is where a loooot people go to decide about which power supplier to use - you could add something there, for cat lovers to consider

I would definitely do as suggested, write to the company and cc to RSPCA.
Also as suggested, write a letter to your local newspaper including the day and time it happened. The more bad publicity the firm get the less likely they are to brush it under the carpet. He may have done this sort of thing before and it jog people's memories.

I sincerely hope it isn't the case, but if your cattie is in the very slightest bit injured, document with the vet too. Cruelty like this makes my blood boil, I hope he loses his job.
 
Aww! poor kitty cat!

my cat...is a psychopath BUT! if i saw someone kick her theyd get a good thrashing from me! to abuse your own animals is bad enough but to do it to someone else's is appaling. Nasty, nasty man!
 
If someone did that to one of my cats I wouldn't be able to contain my anger.

Phone the company in question and detail what happened. Then write a letter. Then one to the organisation that oversees electric companies.
I would also contact the RSPCA and write to your local newspaper. I know it seems a load of work but it will be worth it. Newspaper coverage would show the company up.

I hope you got his name, reg no or something. I would be seriously complaining to the company and demanding action be taken against him.

Despicable behaviour.

Did you get his vehicle reg?
Make sure you take a note of the exact time etc.

Call all of the local press and the RSPCA/Cat's Protection. I've seen people sacked from their jobs from much lesser offences so this guy shouldn't get away with it.

If it had been me I would've chased him down and punched him in the face! D*ckead!

Just thought, it might be an idea to take him to the vets and explain everything that happened. They might have more clout with the RSPCA etc.

Am I right in thinking that if the cat had any injuries that the guy could be charged with criminal damage??
 
That is despicable and I think I would have been out of the door and pulling him from his van had it been one of mine.
As others have mentioned report him to his company and when you have his name also to the RSPCA.
 
I think they would be but not altogether sure. They should be; if all was fair in the world, apart from the cruelty issue. I'd also call him out for engaging in criminal activities in work's time and whatever else I could chuck at him!

Could be wise to check with the vet maybe, I just keep thinking about a man's boot and a cat's delicate bones
