Someone (can't remember who - sorry) posted a while back several tests you can do to measure your dog's intelligence. I remembered that one of them is putting a towel or something over their head and counting how long it takes them to get it off with the dog being more intelligent the quicker they get it off. Well, I just tested Dakota while I was sorting the laundry by dropping a shirt over this head. He pawed at it for a good 20 seconds, twisted around a little this way and that, stood on it, etc. and then he just sat down stock still until I took it off for him

. It explains so much - although in the end he did get it off I suppose, even if it was by getting me to do it for him

Poor Dakota. As suspected, he thinks "differently" to other dogs - but we still love him.

Aw, bless him! B swayed madly from side to side, one foot to the other, and it came off in a few seconds, I couldn't really count because I was laughing so hard, he looked like a villain from Scooby Doo, dressed up as a ghost with a white sheet over his head, he really should have said 'Whooooooo!' and have done with it

Poor B! I bet you wish you had pictures ... I wish I had taken one of Dakota just sat there with it on his head.

Well, acting like he needs me more than the other two do does get him special treatment sometimes. Hmm, maybe he is too intelligent to be fooled by the intelligence test ...

Nah, that's not it!

I had to give Leah top marks for that one because she wouldn't even let me get the damn towel over her head - after a few minutes of chasing her round the house, throwing a towel at her and watching her catch it in her mouth every time, I gave in and decided she was smarter than me.

I tried that test on all my dogs and my husband. The dogs were infinitely quicker at removing the towel, The Husband appeared quite relaxed and made no attempt to remove the towel at all. After half an hour I had to remove the towel as it was needed for the drying up.
