I'm losing weight to back my highland next spring ( lost a stone so far) and i just thought, iv got a Arab x welsh gelding not doing anything. Child lost interest but he's 20 yrs old and healthy. Now he hasn't been ridden for a while about a year now but did love going out and v forward going. Oh he's 14hh by the way. What weight would u put on him? I'm just wondering if I would lose enough to hack him lightly as well. I'm tall 6ft.
What's your thoughts?

Ok, I have a similar pony that is between my children and exercise (although I currently have a pony mad girl riding him which is wonderful!). He's a full up 13.2 Arab x probably NF, 19 years old and totally fit and healthy. I weigh just 9 stone and am 5'4". Probably wouldn't want to put much more on him even though he carries me fine (and loves a blast out on a hack). Does that help?

I guess it depends on his build and fitness. A stocky full up 14h arab/welsh should be able to take 11 stone and probably a little more. 11 stone seems fair imo.

Ok ta, will see what others think. I would be happier with 10.5 stone but at my height that would be very skinny. To start with it would be short slow rides to build him up ( not that he ever knew what slow was) he's on the same routain as the others so he don't feel left out but he so loved hoping out

Depends on his build really. I've seen Arab x welsh ponies of 14.2/3 I wouldn't want more than 9stone on. And others who were full up 13.2, built like sec ds who could manage 11 stone no problem. Healthy low weight for you very much depends on your build, as well as height.

If I could reach 9 stone I would be walking bones.
11stone is my target but I feel a little to much for him?

Yes at your height I wouldn't expect you to be 9 stone. But I think 11 stone, which whilst perfectly proportional for you, may be a little too much for your pony depending on his build. In the same way, I wouldn't ride our 11.2.
