Just looking to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar, as I can’t decide if I’m overthinking it and looking for something that isn’t there or not.
So little bit of background - my mare is generally okay to clip, little bit ticklish around her flank but no more so than other horses I’ve clipped. However, she’s extremely ticklish on her neck at the base of her mane.
I can clip within about two inches or so of her mane and then she will start fidgeting and twitching her neck (kind of like if there was a fly). She’s fine to clip on the underside of her neck and her face, it’s just the top of neck she seems to find really uncomfortable.
I have only clipped her once before and I managed to finish a blanket clip by giving her some sedalin and treating when she let me clip the area.
I am working on desensitising her but I can’t help wondering if there’s a reason she finds it so uncomfortable. Anyone else horses find clipping very ticklish or is this indicative of an injury?
I should add, I have tried some quieter face clippers and whilst better, she was still a bit fidgety. I can run the clippers all over her neck, it is only when I actually clip she doesn’t like it. She also doesn’t like having her mane pulled.
