Ok so if you’re sitting comfortably then I’ll begin
So after a long haul since Pidge was diagnosed with Hock Spavin we have finally come through the other end. He is now off the bute entirely and has had the ok from the vets to resume all work, taking care on hard ground of course. So had a trip out to Somerford Park the other weekend and did a few small jumps and had 2 gallops.
Was local Riding Club show over the weekend and last month I could not jump so yesterday decided to have a go at the working hunter and small SJ classes.
Did the Working Hunter Style and Appearance and came 2nd out of 2.

Disastrous jumping as I was nervous as it was slightly boggy ground and rode Pidge in his double bridle. Judge was extremely nice and helpful and let me just pop the jumps I wanted to. She also told me that in workers I can ride in a snaffle if I prefer so she held the Novice Working Hunter class up whilst I swapped bridles over.

Pidge went much better in this class but we still had an issue with a couple of fences as this was the first time in 4 months we have jumped SJ fences, so came 2nd out of 2 again. Judge says he is a very nice horse, I just have to ride him better – I know I do and I am working hard on this

Had a break and then took him in the 1’9” SJ class where we jumped clear

Then onto the jump off, Pidge feeling very well so I as usual if I get into a JO thought lets go for it, and off we went. Just had fence 6 down which was more than likely my fault but he did everything I asked of him, flew when I asked him to and turned on a sixpence to fence 5 and jumped it from one stride
smile.gif
. This is me after the last but one fence, am I competitive? Surely not

and we flew over the last

We were fastest by over 2 seconds but came 6th in the end due to having 4 faults

, sis came 5th.

Because of how well he felt in this class I decided to do the 2’3” class as well and again he jumped well but we had 2 down so tied for 2nd place with sis and Sunny. I didn’t want to JO as I thought he had done enough for one day so we shared 2nd place.
So came out with 3 2nds and a 6th so am chuffed to bits with Pidge

Oh and just for the Sunny fans out there, who says cobs can’t jump

Hacked him for 30 mins tonight and there is no sign of any lameness so fingers crossed he continues like this.
Just wanted to share my fab day and say to others going through Bone Spavin that there is life after diagnosis and thanks once again for all the support I’ve had in the last couple of months from fellow HHO – very much appreciated

I'm SO SO pleased for you. Your devotion to P has brought a tear to my eye and I wish you the best of luck and health for the future

GabbY8tLa – thanks

I am so pleased now that I did what the vets said and took it nice and easy with Pidge however much it was tempting to do more! Well fingers crossed as it’s the local show again on Sunday as they are trying to catch up as had to cancel some shows due to the weather earlier in the year.
PF – thank you though not quite as gorgeous as PF. You know its funny but having nearly 4 months off jumping seems to have done wonders for my confidence! Didn’t realise how much I missed it till I couldn’t do it! When the course went to 2’3” I didn’t even think about the height just the turns to the fences and where to push on and fly and let him sort it out
grin.gif
Seems to finally have clicked so may have a go at the 2’6” course soon

Madhector – thankies

I understandably am chuffed to bits with how he went – to me he is sound so anything else is a bonus
smile.gif
In fact I must have looked like a loony driving home from the yard as I had a huge silly grin on my face and I was that happy I was singing away to the radio!
Llwyncwn – thanks its been a long haul and at the beginning it felt like going to hell and back god knows what my blood pressure must have been like
crazy.gif
On a separate point do you think he has built more topline since last year and lost muscle underneath his neck? Instructor reckons he has but I’m not sure as I see him every day.

Also I think he looks happy in all the photos jumping whereas earlier in the year he never looked particulary happy about jumping although he jumped what I asked him to? In fact at one stage I was that concerned about it that I posted about this in particluar! In all the pictures mum has taken on Sunday he has his ears forward

This was taken in March.

Thats brilliant!! I did try to tell you not to loose hope and that its certainly not all doom and gloom!
Loads of top competition horses have spavins and cope fine you would not guess that there is anything wrong likewise there must be thousands of racehorses out there racing with it.
Your horse looks great and really happy!
smile.gif

thank you I do remember the kick up the backside you gave me when I was having a serious wobble - thanks it was definately needed!
I just can't believe the difference in him, he has gone back to loving his jumping and well lets just say that dressage is never going to be his thing but he can now do lateral work which he couldn't do before
smile.gif

He's not the only happy one either, I'm over the moon
grin.gif

Well done both of you. Pidge looks great. The pics are fab
it is so nice to hear a happy ending
Is there a horse under all those rossettes???

Well done! I hadn't realised that was your sisters horse I've spoken to her a couple of times at Stafford.

you both look really fab together and both looked like you were enjoying yourselves.

I hope you never look backwards and have a fun filled happy future.

missugoopy – thank you, he was not impressed when I put all the rosettes on him, think he just humoured me
smirk.gif

Lisa – I am soooooo looking forward to Somerford now I just can’t wait, and hopefully we will be doing the summer ride so can do the water and steps – woohooo
smile.gif

Moggy – that’s Sunny the hairy beasty. Were you at Stafford on Sunday then?
Izt – thanks, any thoughts I had about him being too much for me were totally and utterly dispelled on Sunday
smile.gif

SAL66 – fingers crossed for the future, I do love him to bits
Denwyn_Myfanwy – am so pleased for sis as this was the first time she has done SJ (only done CR before) and both she and Sunny really enjoyed themselves – you can see how much Sunny was enjoying himself by how he was jumping – cobs rule

You can see in the pics that you are both LOVING it!

I took my lad XC yesterday after a really lame spell (he has been up and down) and he was jumping everything and pulling my arms out! I really thought he was done earlier this year and advertised him for loan as a light hack...........

Oh that's brilliant news brighteyes, you must be over the moon as well then? Kind of makes up for the low points doesn't it
grin.gif
