Ethels cut on her hock that was leaking joint fluid is healing really well, so yesterday I was going to ask the vet when I can start riding her. Went down to yard before vet turned up at work to make sure she was okay as it was raining. Got there in time to see her and Ted cantering round the field and just watched them for a short while. Ted ran towards the fence but then quickly stopped and turned and ran off the other way. Ethel however, tried to stop but with it being quite slippery she slid into the fence and managed to get her back leg stuck in the fencing which is posts and wire and some of the wires are quite loose which I keep mentioning but nothing gets done :/ Anywho .. Ethel tried to run away with her leg stuck through the fence but ended up falling onto her side and was then struggling trying to get out. She managed to get herself free and then ran off. The whole time she was stuck I watched in panic for a few seconds and then jumped over the gate and ran to her, thinking she was going to have a broken leg or something :| But seeing as she ran away from me after I tore across the field running to her rescue I guessed she wasn't badly hurt. I checked her on the side that I thought she was caught on but all her legs were fine bar a small scrape on her hind leg. Then I checked the other side just in case and found a deep graze on the outside of her right hind on the cannon bone bit. It was bleeding quite badly so I took her in, cleaned it and put dermagel on it. This morning it was hot and swollen so I cold hosed it and walked her round for 10mins and the swelling seemed to go down a tiny bit, but I expect it will be back to how it was this morning tonight.
Its so fustrating cause when she cut her hock I had started riding her the day before, and now she was back on track and this happens
Just wish I could turn her out wrapped in bubble wrap .. although knowing her she would probably still manage to cut herself through that!!
