So. The snow's gone, the ice has retreated, your tack is cleaned, you've clipped the hairy beast. You've found your jods under the chair by the grubby socks in your bedroom. Hooray!! We're going on a hack! Wooohoooooo!

Then:

In my case (on Vet Board) mine decides to develop swollen bits which means I can't girth him up. And need to get a vet out on Bank Holiday Monday. Bum.

Does your horse do this???? I swear he sees the changing weather and decides that being semi-retired is quite good fun, so let's see what symptoms we can dream up to stay that way....

PS

Does anyone else get back on after a break and automatically reach for a seat belt? Or is that just me...:o

after 2 months no horses after a knee operation my first day back playing horses....I fall over dislocate my elbow and now have my full arm in plaster...no playing ponies for another month or so....

After almost 3 weeks of no riding because of the ice, I tack Rosie up today and set out for a hack... only she's decided to come into season. She kept stopping every 5 seconds to urinate. Realising that what should be a short hack around the fields would end up taking about 5 hours, I headed for home very cheesed off!

All the time, this time cellulitis in her back, bank holidays would normally end up having to see vet for a kick mark, or injection. Easter sunday 2 years ago skin infection so had to have vet out. Also has habit of getting ill on a sunday. Like she knows which costs more money out of the days of the week. But one thing she is good to get back on even if been left for long time. She has most of winter off and i got on her in Dec for first time in 4 months off and was fine.

Mine was due in on 1st Jan after 8 months off with tendon prob, had a very bruised, swollen leg when i went to tack him - vet out today, box rest and anti inflamatories.

Mrs M she will be sound!! Think positive!!!

Hope your horse is ok OP

The ice went the day before new year. We managed a quick hack up the lane yesterday (i only share him 3 days a week) and then when we went out today the ice was back :( Was fine around the yard but on some of the shady tracks there were large patches. So won't be going out again for a bit. Have had one close encounter with the ground due to ice in the past. Now we're due snow here again in a couple fo days. When's it summer again?

Try having a bucking bronco that has had nearly two months out of work due to the weather - he now thinks he is fully retired and will never have to see a saddle again in his life!
If everybody else's 'sane' horses (in comparison) are fresh what the heck is he going to be like - I think I'd better school in the field before I hack.
Wish me luck :p
