Just why the rudeness? Pointless rant really

Perhaps your horse's owner could introduce you in the tea room, bit of moral support?

This^^^

Easter is coming up...ideal time to take a few Easter goodies to the brew room and offer to make them a cupper.

I don't recommended this but I smoke so I was in the brew room/smoking area a lot where everyone went for a ciggy/gossip and that's how I got to know most people...don't take up smoking but try and hang out where the others do, join in, have a chat and smile.

I can't believe the folk saying take in food, I'd think the person was a total social freak/saddo if they did that!
.

None for you then :p I would never think it was weird if someone brought cake. We do it all the time at work, at my yards etc. Just leave a note saying 'for everyone' or whatever :D

OP, I used to be crushingly shy, just like you and although I am capable of forcing myself to pretend to be outgoing I still don't enjoy it even now.

What Natch has said about the compliment thing is basically what I do with new people. Just walk by and say 'oo what a gorgeous horse' and that works because they don't need to reply and if they want to all they will say is thank you but it's broken the ice.

I find it much easier when there are horses/dogs/cats about because they are like a conversational 'in' for me.

No one who meets me now ever believes I was incredibly shy as a teenager, or that I am actually shy now. I have just learnt to pretend and that is basically the only way I can see to deal with it.

Pretend to be confident, say hello, goodbye, nice horse, nice rug etc and it'll get easier and easier :)

The fact that you're a work rider from a racing yard makes you strong competition for some. They'll get over it, even if it means they have to stop being a 'big fish in a little pond' ;)

It's not your problem. Speak to the ones who can be reasonable and let them buy their own cake :D
