Sorry its a long one, bear with me, thoughts most apreciated.

I bought a horse from an auction a few years ago, I didnt intend to buy anything but he was so poor I couldn't resist.

He was your usual rescue case, long hooves, thin, worms, scared ~(he was terriblely mistreated) and hiding in the corner (difficult at over 17hh).
He also had a bad back. I spent over 2 years and a small fortune sorting his back and gaining his trust and re breaking him. Although he was never right.
He was very quiet on the ground and good to ride (sometimes) but he was very hard to mount (would let me on then arch his back and do his best rodeo horse impression). He would also work lovely in the school or hack aroundlike a rock steady dobing (traffic, hacks behind and in front, in bad weather)then just do rodeo impressions for no apparent reason, then he would just carry on as if nothing had happened. It was never the same time, place or aid and he was the most guenuine horse I have ever met. He seamed to have a real issue with something.
We have had vet, dentist, physio, saddler, accupuncturist, instructors to see him/ride him, he has been swimming, X rays ect and no one could find anything wrong with him medically and he seamed to have trust in me (he followed me around every where, he is a very loving horse).

He has now gone to live as a companion but he has always baffled us? I would love to know what his issue was.
Any ideas?

Wow thats really interesting, if I'd known him it would still be driving me mad. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but all I can say is the vets can't always find some medical problems - but it doesn't mean they don't exist and sometimes they don't look in the right place. Also have you tried tracing his history for any traumatic experiences that might explain the behaviour, and his breeding for any problems that could be hereditory? Get pictures up all over the place if you don't know all his past owners already, if they recognise him they may be able to shed some light. Good luck and if you are ever any the wiser please give us an update.
