Just wondering what you do ... alot of top dressage riders dont jump there horses (incase of injuries), some of lower level showjumpers dont do flatwork/dressage (because there horse is a showjumper and theres no point (?!))

In my opinion you need to do both so you horse has variation and in some respects it will help with youre main discipline. What do you think ..??
 
I do everything, probably because I event so have to! Funny thing is I never jump at home (only in competitions or occassional training), only ever do flatwork (I dont hack either) yet thats what we suck at! I BSJA most weekends as well as the BE so they get enough jumping without doing it at home as well.

With any horse though, Id do a bit of everything as I think its important or they get stale!
 
Any horse you do only one sort of work/schooling with will lose interest and get blase...Variation keeps them interested and sharp

Flatwork
jumping
xc
hunting
hacking
local shows (more babies)
PC rallys (when younger!!)
chasing (ok meant to be herding) sheep and cows
loose school etc etc

anything to keep them on their toes!!! (well me on my toes, get bored in the school way to easily!!!)
