I am considering buying a black velvet riding hat with a leather strap for showing and dressage, I would like experiences positive of negative about both please!

At the moment, I have a charles and owen, but the price difference between the JT and the CaO is massive!
Thanks guys

I have a Just Togs one, it's really comfy and looks smart, but I do think the Charles Owen ones look smarter! The price difference is quite large though!

I think you can see that the CO is smarter, but that the JT is smart aswell?

The CO there is the Showjumper XP if I remember correctly..

The JT is the HC2... But crikey, I didn't pay as much as they are on the DH website for mine!

I think technically, the two in my pics are the lower model showing hats of the two brands really...

^ That one looks much smarter, and a better price than mine, if you can get it in your size..

^ This is really expensive, but looks lovely

I had the JT junior showjumper which was fab value for money at £35 - fake leather strap understandably. I now have the SJ XP which I also like but if I were to get another I would get the champion Grand Prix as I think a clip is far safer than the other traditional fastenings.

Charles and owen. They are hat makers, whilst justtogs make clothes but also happen to have hats.
Check the safety standards, i bet the charles owen hat is much better. The cost of hats often reflects their safety testing. Ideally you should look for PAS015 AND a kite mark, this means it is batch tested. BSEN 1384 AND a kite mark is also ok, but the BSEN is a lower standard of testing than PAS (i.e less protection for your head).
If the justtogs hat doesnt have a kitemark AND BSEN or PAS then i personally would forget it.

ETA- the quality of the velvet also has a reflection on price (but not safety!)

Pedant Alert - the name of the company is Charles Owen, not Charles AND Owen. The C&O thing comes from the two cartoon horses they use to advertise their range of kids' hats.

Having had a good look at both while buying my new hat last week, I think the CO one is nicer. HOWEVER, I'd go for the one that fits my head better and feels more secure, regardless of brand.

All Charles Owen hats are handmade in the UK, I bet Just togs buy their hats from huge manufacturers in the far east, I would buy Charles Owen every time.. you only have one head!
