Jute Rugs!

I was glad to see the back of these rugs - heavy, smelly and took an age to dry. I often thought it must be like wearing a carpet for the horses only heavier!
I often love the traditional things - but not these!!

Jutes are great. 100% organic/natural and breathable, great for thatching.
Mine is there on the rug rack ready for the winter weather.

I haven't seen anyone using a jute rug with roller for years!
Yes, they are pain to wash (very carefully) and do smell but in this day and age of nylon, plastic, synthetic etc it would be nice to see something traditional come back!
WELL done Tetrach and Winchester, let's hope you start a trend but just don't ask me to wash them please!

yup, the jute isthe most used rug on the rack.
it fits in the washing machine, is hardwearing & stays put (unlike most modern turnouts)
cant say mine smells that bad or takes any longer to dry than the all singing all dancing turnout.

but they are personal preference.

What turn out rugs do you use? I have had Rambo, Amigo and Premier Equine and none of these ever move, and my horse is out 24/7. Mine dry very quickly but I do find that they dry better if hung up underside up. Do you turn out in a jute? I cannot understand why you are comparing them to turn-outs.

To the OP, at £20 a rug, its not so bad if they get trashed. You could also buy old rugs from second hand tack sales and just throw them out when they're no longer useable.

my old fella had several rambo's that moved about on him horribly no mattere how well you fitted them & the weatherbeater, he left in the middle of the field.
he was turned out 24/7 & the jute's were fantastic, i had several old army blankets & 2 jute's that were the top covering (never cold and very rarely wet at skin level).

my new lad is somewhat smaller than the last & i am now looking to get him some jute rugs, as both his horsewear & ruggles turnouts are damaged from moving already.
