Juvenile sarcoids

What are people experiences?
My youngster has one and the advice from my vet who conferred with the specialist is to leave alone and watch closely. If it grows we can laser it but she is hopeful it will regress and disappear on its own. Has anyone had young horses with these before? What did you do and what was the outcome?

My then 4 yr old cob had a sarcoid on her muzzle which started to bleed, vet excised it. Several years later there is no sign of recurrence, or of any further sarcoids.

I've had two young horses with sarcoids but both had lots and that's really bad news, so they were all got rid of. My vet said if there were no new ones by the time the horse reached 6 then we should be in the clear. The first developed no more that I know of after 5 (I sold him at 7 so I can't vouch for later) and the second is six now and hasn't popped up anything new for nearly a year.

If I had a horse which only had one in a good place and I didn't want to sell it, I'd leave well alone and watch.

Old boy had a small pimple sized one at 4 yo, left it alone, it grew to the size of a small marble by the time he was 20, he was pts for something else. Went to look at a fab mare as his replacement, she had a single ulcerating one on her belly, I got scared and didn't buy her, not sure if that was the right decision

My 4yo has one tiny one on his sheath. Was planning to have rid of it, but interested to see that watch and wait might also be an appropriate course of (in)action...

Three year old with one on hind leg, used Sarc-X, disappeared after 9 months and not appeared again (7 years on). Four year old, sarcoid on sheath, sprout sized, banded by vet and dropped off. He also had several small ones on chest that disappeared and one banded. No reoccurance three years on.I don't know if the sarc x helped or not, maybe just good nutrition and the fact they were both quite young helped their immune systems to fight off the sarcoid.

Current horse had one the size of a chickpea just under his armpit- he was about 5 and it totally disappeared once he’d settled with me and built some condition.
Had a warmblood years ago that grew some mega ones on his neck and sheath that were surgically removed- didn’t recur as far as I know (was sold on). That horse was probably about 4 or 5 when they started.

My horse had 3 very small lumps and I did notify a vet thet said leave alone and they went away, same horse had a lump in his nostril I was so worried rang vet he said put him on a good all round vitamin and mineral supplement and it has now gone, a lot is to with immune system you need to boost it echinacea is good so is a good all round balancer.

Thanks all, good to know its not an unusual course of action. Will look into supplements as it can't hurt to try that route

Just to add I can link my horses sarcoids to him being ill just previous to them coming up, hence why they often pop up after the horse has been unwell and run down but that is not always the case so I am told by my vet.

With both my youngsters who had lots of them, they popped out new ones after every stressful event, like being taken away from home.

My gelding had some (all back leg, sheath, belly region) when he was younger. I had a total of four banded over the space of about 3 years because they were fibroblastic and ulcerating but we left the rest. Most went away of their own accord but a couple have remained unchanged for years, one between his back legs and the other on his belly in front of his sheath (they are both nodular and about the size of a grape). He is 12 now.

we had one on the belly, its gone ,now, it bleed cause it got knocked
