Hi all
Teddy my year old terrier had her booster the other day and while doing his checks I asked the lovely vet if he would just have a closer look at her eye.
I had noticed that when I turn the torchlight on the dogs as they come towards me in the dark that one of her eyes wasnt making any kind of reaction to the light.
It turns out she has juvenille cataracts.:(

Now Ive had blind horses and older dogs with cataracts but never a young dog with this so Im after advice on a few things!!
There doesnt seem to be a problem with her other eye and hopefully this will continue to be the case.
she could be operated on once the cataract has fully developed but no guarantees this will regain her sight in that eye.
so has anyone had any experience of cataract surgery in dogs and what ages were your dogs?
Has the surgery been successful? Or has the dog remained blind in the eye operated on?
Did cataracts appear in both eyes or stay in just one?
She is also having a bit of a rough time at the moment as she was also kicked by a neighbors psycho filly and is hopping around on 3 legs! thankfully nothing is broken but she is very stiff and feeling sorry for herself.
any advice would be most welcome
thanks Claire xx

One of our Brittany's had cataracts in both eyes by the time he was 2.
He started with one that we decided to just leave but within a year the other eye had gone to.
He had the surgery on both eyes. Sight came back and he lived to a grand old age with no problems again.

what breed is she..or what mixes are in her make-up?

well she was found in a box last year alongside some collie pups! local info says the litter were from a farm where the small bitch collie had got caught by a terrier! but she is does look a bit weird? i will find her pic and upload it. I know collies can have all kinds of eye problems and if she has that in her make up it would make sense of her exceptional herding skills:rolleyes:;)

Flipping eck? are Brittanys known for them or was he just unlucky?
