Man, oh man is my horse a tough wee beastie :).

That massive haematoma (sp?) has GONE! I haven't had to cold hose him for the past two days . . . stuck him on the walker while I was mucking out . . . all wounds are healing with no sign of infection anywhere - he is right as rain!

Honestly, given the size of that thing, I didn't expect that it would be gone in less than four days . . . he really does heal quickly (and I am sure the steroid injection and anti-flammatories given by the vet on Sunday night, plus the bute he has had since then have helped).

Vet is coming at 4 p.m. today - I am fully expecting that she will tell me to turn him out and get him back into ridden work - which is amazing considering he couldn't stand up properly on Sunday afternoon and was a shaking, sweaty, stiff, sore mess who could hardly walk!

I am so relieved and happy :).

Oh Hoorah! I meant to reply on your first thread about Kali (did you know that means 'fierce' in Swahili?) but I ended up in tears reading it (I have a soft spot for your horse and I've never even met him) and then the batphone rang and I had to go and compose myself to answer someone's marketing needs so never got around to it. Anyway, I'm hugely relieved for you. Great news! Please can he send some magic Larry Longlegs' way so his pulled bum muscle gets better?

P.S. No - I did not know that Kali means "fierce" in Swahili - it is also Albanian for "horse"

That's great news :) I'll keep my fingers crossed it is good news from the vets later on this afternoon - but it sounds like your fierce horse (pun, very much intended!) is doing a grand job all on his own :) x

Thank you :). He always heals really well, but he has surprised me this time . . . in a good way ;).

It's funny - just based on his name, most people assume he's a mare ;). Kali is actually a Hindu Goddess - among other things - but I was very glad to find some other "meanings" . . . including "fierce" ;).

Well, vet was very impressed with his recovery - we trotted him up and he is marginally unlevel on his right leg, but that is his club foot and he has been stood in for four days. She said he could go out in the field - told me to keep him quiet and keep an eye on that haematoma - and that he could start ridden work next weekend. Hurrah :). I dosed him up with sedalin this morning, booted him up and turned him out with his little friend Roger. Hugely uneventful . . . he just marched up the field and put his head down and ate. Big grins all round.

I think we were very lucky.

Oh, and a friend, on looking at the pictures from the hunt, wondered if he could have kicked himself jumping - in the pics he is really snapping up and he does wear bar shoes in front . . . think I'll be looking for a stud guard ;).
