I tried one of these on at the riding club champs and was really please with the fit and feel. Infact I was quite surprised. The only thing I was a little worried about was it's only 2000 approved and not 2009 and am worried buying this for eventing means I won't be able to wear it soon can anyone advise me about this please? Looking on beta website can't see much different in the standards but will there be a time only 2009 are allowed?

I am really shocked they have not got the new standard.

I have been considering a Kan, but would not spend that money without the new standard in place for the reasons you mentioned.

Hopefully they will get it sorted?

Thanks Guys for your advice I have rung Wendy direct and shes answered all my questions and have now got a lovely blue one on its way to me for the weekend.

Wendy doesnt have internet access at the moment but is on her mobile to chat if anyone wants.

Glad to hear everyones had such great reviews of them

I'm really impressed with the Kan. Wendy has been kind enough to support miniTD by supplying one - mTD was a bit suspicious at first tbh as she thought it felt heavier to try on and a bit more unyielding than her RS. However, having now competed in it twice she absolutely loves it, says it is incredibly comfortable and not at all heavy to wear :) Dunno re the standards but I'm convinced that the Kan offers the best protection on the market due to the superior foam, so I'm certain there is no problem.

My daughter loves hers and I regret not buying one when my body protector needed replacing, next time it is due for a change I am definitely buying a Kan.

Love my Kan as well - was also a bit concerned about it being 2000 but spoke to Wendy and she talked me round. Wouldn't wear anything else now!

can you explain? are they still only 2000 rated? surely at some point soon event organisers will stipulate that bp's must be a minimum of 2010

having a look at the website they are still obviously only 2000 rated, I dont understand how you can be talked round this? Much though I like the idea of one Im afraid Id only want a BP that met the newest standard. I know the foam doesn't degrade in them and so they don't need to be replaced every 3-5 years which is a selling point but as the OP said, when event organisers change the rules to say BP's at comps must meet the newest standard, which they will, you'd be goosed.

i think the new standard is that there cant be a gap behind the zip which there isnt on this bodyprotector

I have looked in to this and the new standard is also to do with the sides of the BP.
I also don't know how you could be turned round.
If the Kans aren't tested to the new 2009 standard at some point in the future they won't be BETA approved.

Have been reading this with concern - just bought a Kan a couple of weeks ago and didnt realise it could become out of date for BE

If the Kans are not to the new standard then regardless of if they do actually comply or no, they would not be allowed if / when BE changed the rules.

Of course most will never get checked, but if they ever were I would want a back up plan!

Thing is, when are they likely to bring in the rule that bps must be beta 2009? Haven't they only just stipulated they must be 2000?

Wendy is currently on the road at shows and hasn't been able to get online due to poor internet connection she asked me to post this on her behalf

"Using technology from the motorcycle industry the KAN has been designed with the 2009 safety standard in mind. It is the newest equestrian body protector on the market and when we launched only the 2000 standard existed, we have been manufacturing to this standard but will progress to 2009 in compliance with the revision that now exists. EN:13158 – 2000 level 3 (to which the KAN is tested) is a current and relevant standard that is accepted by BETA, BE, FEI, RC & PC organisations. It is perfectly legal for a retailer to continue to sell 2000 labelled garments and for riders to wear these for competition due to the fact that manufacturing has only just drawn to a close in July 2011, there is no time limit on this standard. Please check with BETA for clarification."
