Current bridle has seen much better days so have decided to treat madam to a new one in the next month or so.

To be fair her current bridle is now 8 years old and has been thoroughly used and abused and was only a cheapy Heritage bought for previous horse.

So, I think I have narrowed it down to these 2:

Am wanting:
padded headpiece
padded brow and noseband
drop noseband with matching cavesson available

Really like the KN and Sabre - little to no difference in price. Which one would you go for and why?

Haha!! Well that doesn't help, one vote each way!

Kat - Sabre can be mixed and matched too. Not sure on colour - is it not a bit bright? I agree that the Sabre isn't the nicest colour either though just don't want anything that looks too orange as madam is currently very dark (though I'm sure will gingerfy again come the summer).....

Im after a new bridle [when I get paid lol] and I am going to go for a KN.
Someone in Comp Riders had a new KN and posted a picture and it looked luuurvley [sarah-jane I think]??

I have the sabre cordoba and love it - beautiful quality and I've had it a year so far - still looks like new although nice and supple. Personally I don't like the buckles etc of the KN very much. Does the KN come with reins? Cos my sabre didn't, although as you say, they did mix & match the pieces for me to get a perfect fit.

Oh, will go look for SJ's pic now! If it comes to it i'll hold off till badders and have a look and feel of them in the flesh.

MP - KN can come with buckles or hook and stud on cheeks but I agree that the Sabre fixings do look nicer, seem to be more discrete.

Good to hear good things about the cordoba, does the headiece of the noseband stay flat against the headpiece or does it rise up as this was my main concern?? Also, how does it come up size/fit wise?

I Have has several KN bridles and normally have found them to be very good. The most recent one I bought has a tendancy to go white overnight, I have no idea why, we bought two bridles at the same time one balck one brown and the brown one always goes white and the black one never does. Which is a real pain as i cant clean it the night before a competition as it just needs doing againt the next day.

I have now bought a Albion KB and I love it. Have you looked at them?

The noseband hanger and headpiece are all sewn together in one padded strap so there is nothing to rise up, as it were. It's a very neat design.

Size wise I'd say true to size - my mare is full size around the ears and cob everything else in most brands incl Jeffries, collegiate etc and Sabre is just the same. Their website has all the measurements.

I have 6 KN bridles one of them being 10 years old and still in fab condition !!

they are really friendly and take advise great (ordered running gag cheeks and they just wernt right so they changed their design and sent me new ones)

they will also do a full headpiece with cob cheeks !

I also love the albion bridles, thats what madam has. The KN colour does look a bit bright in pics, but isnt after a couple of cleans, just a really stunning rich oak colour

I have one of each and think the Sabre has lasted better - still looks good whereas the KN started to go down hill a bit too quick for my liking...quite a few deep cracks on throatlash..noseband straps etc.

I have never seen a KN in real life so am not in a position to comment really; however, from the picture the buckles and brass bits look really 'visible', while the Sabre seems to be a bit more understated and I like that better.

Otherwise, I agree with CF and KatB, have a look at the Albion! Same price range, I think, and fab quality. This is mine:

I don't actually like either. The leather is not the same quality as Stubben or Albion and tends to crack and lose it's colour.

Love my new Kate Negus fabulous quality and mega fast 24hr delivery. I have 2 the one I have just bought and the one I use for jumping which is 6 years old and still in great nick desppite me not being the best with looking after it. Highly recommended.

I hate billet hooks so would always have buckles. But don't like the rings on the noseband of the KN in the photo. Lovely bridle apart from that though! not a huge fan of Sabre (and certainly not going to pay for an Albion!!

Im not keen on either.
Stubben you have to watch as they dont have good quality control. They can use any type of leather and stamp it Stubben.

I'm a jeffries fan. I have 6. Including a IR and 2 premier. I am shocking with the tack cleaning/care but they always scrub up well. The big appeal with them is the mix'n'match can go as far as f/s headpiece and cheeks and cob browband etc. whatever suits horses head!!

Another Jefferies fan here. I had a Sabre bridle once and it began to look shabby after about 18 months. It looked 'dull' and dirty no matter how clean it was.

I have a Kate Negus double, bought it six months ago, used pretty much every day and is still like new. the leather is gorgeous and supple and the stitching is brilliant. Can't hesitate to recommend it.

Kate Negus all the way - Bought my first one nearly 15 yrs ago and I am still using it for daily use and competition use. Fab leather comes up gleaming - can buy different sizes of different bits to mix n match and the only thing I have replaced is the reins as the orginal rubber eventually went smooth !
Now have 17 KN bridles for the RS horse and Ponies as I know that I can relie on them - no cracking, breaking , wearing or duff stitching. FAB FAB FAB Bridles - as you can tell I'm a big fan !! Albion bridles not personally my taste but Huge fan of their saddles !! 22 of those !!

Sabre all the way (not helping are we?!)

Bought my cordoba 2nd hand & it is still immaculate (despite DA's best efforts!) the leather quality is fantastic & I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Let's face it It's your choice - Have fun choosing whichever bridle suits your needs !! - interesting to see how we all have our firm tried and tested favourites !!

I was just thinking this, seeing how many responses there were now! This always happens when someone asks about bridles
