Katie Jerram's column in H&H

My local is Devon County. Their closing date was 30th March, for a show on the 16th may. My foal was due on the 17th March but is still not on the ground. I am not going to enter my mare and potential foal before I've even seen if it has 4 legs in the right places.
Therefore the reason I won't go is down to the show and they will lose out. I can't understand why the shut showing entries almost 6 weeks before the show, but stipulate that foal must be 3 weeks old - i can't be the only one in this situation.

They have always closed early...they have to print catalogues etc.
There is a lot more to organise than a local show...it isn't just the horse entries they need to organise and print.....The secretaries must be mad lol..I couldn't do it :P

You just take the chance and enter whether the foal is born or not...you can't fill in the details so you just write ' 2013 foal ex mares name' ...it's annoying if you don't enter and then wish you had :)
I've just entered both my fillies in the same class at S of E, but will only take one...just know if I entered just one then the other would be the one I should take :)

Judging is what the judge likes not always what should win the class or even if said horse should be in the class?!! i wont trot the country to go to shows but i will go to a few local shows this year to get some babies out, more for the experience. havent read article mind you just my op!

Twedette, which shows insisted your wear white. The county shows we went to, everyone was in tweed, bar the old Royal Show which had a warmblood class, where everyone wore whites

Funnily enough in germany, most people wear jeans to run their horses up with either the verband top or a white top. So not totally sure where the everyone must wear total white rule came from.

The scottish sports horse society insist on wearing white, hence I refuse to join. I once got picked up by one of their organisers on the colour of my boots at one of their shows - never again!!! The sports horse classes drag on for ever , its easier to show in hunter or riding horse classes - no hassle in those. Plus I dont want my passports overstamped by them which is something they insist upon if you become a member.
Maybe south of the border they actually get on and judge the classes but in scotland its a nightmare - to me its just a power trip for those in charge , something I wont subscibe to.
I go to get an opinion on my animas not me.
