I think it's fab as she'll raise the profile of the sport....but it does strike me that just because she has the buying power to buy such a beautiful animal that she'll 'buy' her way to the top. good luck to her but I'm not sure she appreciate the level she'll need to ride at the Olympics.....Laura Bechtolsheimer, Carl Hester, Spencer Wilton etc etc graft for hours and hours every day and have probably been riding since they can walk....and they are not doing it for the glamour!
If I only I had the time to put my full slap make up on and lubricate my legs into a pair of size 6 breeches before I went riding! Good luck Katie: it's going to be hard work!

But the whole point is that she can't "buy" her way to the top. That surely implies that talent has nothing to do with being a top rider, just having money? I have no doubt the money helps an awful lot but she won't be able to hold her own against those top riders unless she has the talent and dedication too. Even if I won the lottery tomorrow, bought an amazing horse and had all the lessons in the world, I would still never come even close to that!
It's not different to when people slag off Zara Phillips...I'd love to see the people who criticise her take her horses around 4* courses and win! The whole point is that the horse isn't a machine and still needs to be ridden, despite the size of your bank balance.
I say good on her, I have nothing but admiration for her. I'd be cheering her on if I was there!

Yes I agree...besides most of the top riders are lets say a little more wealthy than the average Jo anyway (ok maybe not all) so I don't see how she is buying her way to the top...like most top riders they can afford to buy well bred/produced horses or indeed have the money to breed and train their own, so if she can afford it, why is she any different to the rest of the riders, therefore buying her way top is not something I'd say she was doing in a bad sense.

I usually refrain from commenting on these posts... but with such an insecure seat and hands that aren't steady why is she riding in a double bridle!!!

My thoughts exactly
.
I wish her luck though and hope she has a great time at HOYS
I haven't got time to read all of this at the mo, so sorry if this has already come up but...
"professional dressage test"? Hmmm.
I'm not knocking her though, she seems like a nice person and a good mum, and if she's lucky enough to be able to afford the best to follow her dream, then good for her
I suspect that most people have a budget when they are buying a horse, and one person's budget may be very different to anothers. Why not buy a good horse when you can afford one?
Is it possible that an unflattering picture of KP was published? not an unheard of phenomena where that particular newspaper is concerned. They are also good at 'editing' what has been said - so it is entirely possible that she never said that she wanted to compete at the Olympics - just dream about it........like many others do.
Good for her for being brave enough to go for it - in public and under the spotlight at HOYS.

She is a bad image for our sport...and hopefully she will give up soon. She is a chav, no wonder she was not welcome at that polo match.

What, as bad an image as that German dressage rider beating seven types of sh:t out of her horse?
Can we have a tiny bit of perspective please? I don't think KP will do the sport any huge favours, nor will she damage it. She's entitled to do what she likes with her money and I wish her luck but I wouldn't buy tickets to see her ride...
I see that my thread has got lips wagging - and I was only at work for 5 hours. To all of you sourpusses who keep saying 'she has bought her way to the top' - of course she has!! Wouldn't you! Wouldn't you buy the best horse that you possibly could if it was within your budget. Really, claws in!
I think that her seat looks much better than it did on that youtube dressage video...meh...I am the one that has never, and will never do a dressage test!

How has she bought her way to the top? Isn't she riding at Prelim and so quite firmly at the bottomish, at least of the dressage scale? Perhaps she will get to the top one day, but she's not there yet.
And yes, if I had loads of dosh I would probably buy the best horse I could afford and take lessons with all the top trainers.
Katie has bought horses of different levels. The one she rode at Hickstead she admits wont take her to olympic level but she has just bought a 4yr old if I remember right which is aiming for that level.
If I had as much money as she does then i'd probably do the same. But it is annoying for the rest of us that have to work from the bottom. Or even for the professional riders who train their horses to that level. Katie just gets someone else to train her horses and she sits on them 4 days a week and hopes to gather all the rosettes. I'm sure her lessons consist of simply making her a better rider not helping make her horse improve.
Yes the horses is very nice but its far to good for her, when i watched a clip of her riding at a show it looked like she was having trouble holding the horse together and keeping it in a outline and she could not sit to it at all WHAT were her hands and legs doing??????????
She should not be riding at HOYS her riding is nowhere near good enough, its not the green eyed monster talking honest, yes i would love to have the money she has got and yes i would buy a horse like that but i would make sure before i enter any competions etc that i could ride the horse and that my riding was up to the standard, level it needed to be i think she has shown herself up big time, when i heard her say that she hopes of competing in the 2012 olypmics i had to laugh lots course there is no hope ever of her being good enough and there noway she would get picked over 1 of our more experiance much better dressage riders to ride for our country!!!!!!! PMLOL
As frustrating as it may be we have bought into a passion that money can influence and accelerate both performance and results. Katie price is in a position to buy better horses and trainers than the majority of people (me included!) but that isn't a crime. To put this into a perspective of what really is a crime and damaging to the sport you only need to look at the below thread. These were the actions of a supposed respected dressage rider! http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3585199/an/0/page/0/gonew/1#UNREAD
All I can say is publicity is good and she is trying her best..believe me if I was riding you'd piss yourselves laughing at my efforts so she is pretty good!
I have to say yes she has a very nice horse but she has basically bought her way into the sport. I mean she competes at Prelim level came 6th with 63.17% loads of people have managed that but because it is Katie Price all of a sudden it becomes an amazing achievement. Most people can't afford to buy this perfect ready trained dressage horse so they actually have to work to get to a higher level and you work hard getting up at half 5
in the morning to plait up. Whereas at Hickstead she turned up at the competition separately to her horse someone else warmed it up and then she just got on 5 minutes before her test.
Whereas I know from personal experience most people have to get on their horses at least 1/2 an hour before their test to get it all going properly. By this point I am already tired
