S*d the media hype I still think it's brilliant and now the public might be able to relate to dressage a bit more. It is, after all, one of the least accessible to the uninitiated of all our equestrian persuits. Anything that gets people interested is a good thing.

Lets not actually forget though that Katie courts the media constantly and has cameras following her around all the time for her reality show. I think all the comments 'oh how terrible to be filmed' are slightly misplaced. She knows what she's doing.

That said, I would wet myself with glee if I could do any dressage test at all. Regardless of who she is, well done to her time and dedication.

yep i'm with you!! I love her and i think its about time we had someone who is 'into' horses to promote the sport a bit more!! She is HUGELY successful and popular and I for one am HUGELY jealous of her!!!
 
As they say 'any publicity is good publicity'! And good knows our sport could do withit at the min. I can't fault her and she's a good little rider too

I think good on her, she looks about as nervous as I would be doing a test. The whole "she's aiming for the olympics" has I would think been taken from a tongue in cheek comment she's probably said. How many times do we all make off the cuff remarks like that? I always reckon i've got these big ambitions (Hickstead Derby etc etc) but my nerves wouldn't be up to it (well neither would my horse but that's by the by! haha)

There's many more richer people out there than her competing in dressage and yes, she lets the media know where she is and when but so what, she's a canny lady, keeps herself in the public eye these days but not OTT. V brave to let them know you're competing, it's nerve racking enough doing dressage without cameras IMO!
 
I would be mortified if I was Gina Weare!!!!. Like anyone needs their lasts to be publicised!!!

Wonder where she got her silk jods, wouldn't have thought they would be the most practical, silk isn't stretchy is it?

the media are so full of rubbish....I came 6th in first dressage test, doesn't mean I'm aiming for the Olympics!!!!

She looks great as does her horse, I think she has done so well and copes amazingly with everything, ok, she has help but so what.

But at the end of the day, its just another opportunity for more PR dah-ling. Katie has a great PR person on her side and if it brings horses and responsible ownership, dressage or whatever to the newspapers then why not!
 
Well done Katie, I think she should be the face of one of the equestrian charities. That would raise awareness of welfare issues outside of the equestrian world. There's a lot to gain through not solely preaching to the converted (ie us lot!).
 
QR - You know what...I couldn't care less what she's up to! I have all on worrying about my own riding without thinking about what people I don't even know are up to!
I can't comment on if she's good or not or indeed if she's a nice person as I don't know the woman.
If she can get to the top then good luck to her & if it promotes the sport in a positive light along the way then great!
Great result for a 1st outing, well done to her!
She did, however, come across very well on the Sunday Night Project!!!!!!
The media should just leave her to it for pitys sake...

Well said H's Mum, I think we all have first times we would rather not get mass media coverage of.
For goodness sake she got a placing, which is an achievement in itself.
As for the Olympics bit, I bet she joked that would be her next stop...and it was seized upon as a thing to print.
I say good luck to her, competing is something no-one can cheat at even with a fantastic horse, you have to have the abilty to ride it.

Business woman my arse!! She's made a lot of money from getting her grossly surgically enhanced tits out for the media, competing on tacky reality tv shows and getting married to a vacuous, never-was pop star!

Have to MAJORLY disagree with you Fruddy - she is a very, very astute business woman - to make THAT much money being a glamour model is a huge deal - there are thousands of glamour models in the world and she is the only true household name - love her or hate her you cannot take away the fact that she HAS created her own fortune and has been very switched on and clever in how she has done it.

She hasn't made money out of being a slapper - that is just rude and untrue. Are you sure you are not thinking of Jodie Marsh

If you are so happy with your own life, why are you so judgemental and critical of someone else's? If you were content, you wouldn't be jealous or bitter or resentful of the success of others - however they brought it about - because you'd have your own happiness to think of. It seems to me like you resent someone for doing well and that an easy way to reduce that achievement is to take pot-shots at the way she's earned her money, but if her choice of business doesn't hurt you or the ones you love, why denigrate her success? Would you take a toy off a child if they were having more fun with theirs than you were with yours?

Not at all - I am just sick and tired of hearing people saying how bloody marvellous she is, when she is basically famous for being a glamour model and making crappy programmes with Peter Andre such as "Katie and Peter Make Breakfast Together" and other such nonsense. It doesn't hurt me at all how she earns her money - good luck to her and welcome to it - but I THOUGHT that this was a forum where people could air their views - just because mine isn't blowing sunshine up her backside like everyone else, suddenly I'm jealous of her, which is not the case at all.

I actually have a lot of respect for her as a horsewoman but not a businesswoman - which was my original point.

Its the same with people such as Kerry Katona, Jade Goody etc., they have earned a lot of money for doing absolutely nothing worthwhile.

For others they may have been inspirational, a role model, an employer, a valued customer, etc. I may not like Katona or Goody either, but I don't let that blind me into only seeing the negative, and if they have affected the lives of others in a positive way, though you may not consider what they've done worthwhile, surely it's only for those affected to judge?

Have to agree with Fruddy here, she(Katie) is just a vacuous, surgically enhanced (or perhaps now disfigured) slapper (well she certainly behaves like one) that just happened to be in the right place at the right time. We always have one or two in the media in any decade, '
Tis far more about luck than judgement. I think. Just 'cos she had the good fortune to make a lot of money doesn't mean she is is a wonderful role model has any talent or is in any way admirable. If anyone wanted such a career for their daughters they are very sad.
