Nor am I. But many of us on a big striding horse like that, that has that bit of cadence and elevation that many of us very rarely get to sit on, and you'd be swinging around on your hands too.

Just that she has a long way to go - which is surely to be expected, if she is just setting out in the competitive world?

FWIW I would happily get on that very nice mare! I'm no dressage rider myself - sure, I would like to be - but I have enough experience to be able to maintain a secure seat, whatever the type of horse I am sitting on. We're not talking about TALENT here - its about experience. And with time, she will improve - that horse seems perfect for her to make real progress with.

I have to disagree there. To be honest, why should she get rated or slated more or less than any other person doing a prelim test? She shouldn't have to live up to any expectations and be criticised because she's not as good as people think she should be, but by the same token I don't think she deserves excessive praise just because she is a celebrity.

Just because she is a celebrity doesn't mean she is a better rider than any other person, and I am sure there are lots of riders on the forum who could get a schoolmaster to do a nice prelim test.
 
FIrst of all she is more than capable of blocking out the camera's, after all she brought on all the publicity herself, that is what she is and has always strived for.

Secondly, I agree, I thought she would be alot more experienced than she obviously is.

I'm not being funny, but I dont see why she should get the "oh wow how amazing" etc etc for a decidedly mediocre test. Good on her for doing it, but there are 100's of people out there that could go out and do just as good if not *shock horror* a better test than her without it being bigged up?! Just because she is in the news, why should we have to say *amazing, wonderful* etc etc when it wasn't?!

Good on her for doing it, and I'm sure she will get better with competitive experience.
 
She rode well considering she looked absolutely terrified and IMO is, at the moment, a little overhorsed. I would love to see her go on and do well and it will be interesting to see her progress.

As for 2012....I think maybe thats a little over enthusiastic just at the moment.

just watched video i did think KP needs credit for getting out there and doing............... and it does prove that in dressage you have to work for every mark........... and for goodness sake it's only unafill prelim...........

Great for putting dressage in the general arena and proving that's it a proper sport.............

QR - is it my eyes or is she on the wrong diagonal at the beginning on right rein? Could be wrong, probably am!
In fairness I struggle with diagonals but I'll admit to being a novice rider!
I think she did ok for her 1st outing & taking into account the fact that she was aware it'd be international news in a day or 2! Fair play to her she did better than alot of people would...

I think she is a very brave woman to ride a test knowing the paps are going to be there and that she is more than likly going to be ripped to bits on any mistakes that might happen,
if she has asperations to do 2012 then good luck to her, (we all have to have goals ) she has to be selected first, with a good horse, instructer, and the means to do it, it may happen and i would love to see it, Katie Price in my mind is a good role model, works very hard to achive her goals, and above all when she finished that test she was happy and gave her horse a good pat and praise, and for that she has my support, WELL DONE KATIE

Ditto this. Lovely looking horse, pretty decent test (I couldn't do any better, on that horse or my own!) and good on her for having the guts to do it with all the paparazzi there. I imagine they contributed greatly to her nerves and won't have done her any favours. I think all the talk of Olympic selection has been dreamed up by the media and may have contributed to people's disappointment, sadly.

There's no such thing as a wrong diagonal in a dressage test any more.

Oh and the I'd still have a secure seat on what ever dressage horse you sat me on comment, sorry but that's had me giggling you get on a good dressage horse in a "secure seat" and you either not go anywhere at all or you'll end up in the next county.

The swinging head ovbiously is an area for her to work on but it's one we all suffer/suffered with time and again. She does look very nervous to me, she might be used to cameras but she's not used to dressage competitions.

On wards and upwards for her just like the rest of us. But yes ditch the white gloves and what her hat harness white or was that just the camera flashes ?
 
For what reason?! What a bizarre comment. I do agree with you that her time must be limited. It was just a statement. I don't think there's any need to jump on anyone is there.

Peter bought it for her a while ago, and then it said it was a schoolmaster. Paid a lot of money for it, i think it was in double figures in the thouand bracket.
 
If I am being completely honest, I didn't like it one bit. On the head on shots you could see the horses head being pulled left and right in an attempt to get him on the bit. Her hands were so unsteady it was unreal.

BUT having said that, we must remember that Katie is a complete beginner when it comes to dressage - she is a self confessed speed deamon and loves her galloping and jumping. Would I expect to see a better test from someone of similar dressage experience, without the name Katie Price - no, I wouldn't. This test reflects the level and ability of her dressage riding at the moment, which is not a bad thing, as she is a beginner in the dressage world - come on, she only took it up properly a few months ago, and with her kids and other committments she has, she has done incredibly well.

So, did I like the video/the way she was riding - no I didn't one bit. But do I admire her as a dressage beginner - yes, definately.
 
I agree with kick_on, i could never do a dressage test, well at that level! Id be cr*ping myself! Shes in the public eye as it is so whatever she does shes going to get slateed for, BUT it doesnt stop her! She doesnt hide away!
Leave the poor women alone! She does a lot with her life, and who knows really she wants to get to the 2012?! Didnt her trainer say she doesnt anyway?! Its all ni the papers, half the stuff you read isnt true in these tabloids!! If she wants to try out, go girl!

i for one was not being bitchy at all. I think if you post anything on here its going to be commented on- my opinion was she isnt as experienced as her autobiography (which she wrote!) made out. She does not look comfortable.

You will also note i posted about this in latest news saying "good on her" I think she did well and must have been nervous.

I agree with you its a big striding horse- IMO one that is slightly too big for her , she cant seem to get her seat and looks tense.
I for one did not say I could do any better!!! Perhaps read all the comments before you nit pick and b&tch yourself!

please post your first test so we can compare too....................... and do a crit......................... any takers?????

I'm NOT cos i know damm hard riding under test conditions are.....................
 
Really? I didn't know that! Why is the correct diagonal not important? Does that mean it's not important for schooling? Hope so, I can stop doing my own head in about it!!!!!!!!!

Oh there's proper aff judges on this board who can do a better job that me but I'll try.


In Eurpoe they often choose to ride on the opposite to what we call the correct diagonal this if for reasons of straightness and swing I believe.

Because of this it's not judged as right or wrong in tests anymore.

At home you do need to try and make sure you ride 50% of the time on 1 diagonal and 50% of the time on the other diagonal so that your horse builds up it's strength and muscles evenly.
 
I'm sure all the cameras were a bit off-putting for the horse... Fair deuce to her - even though IMO it wasn't a 63.75% test, but it was unaffiliated...
 
Sorry but another one here who was suprised by that video - I was under the impression she was an experienced rider and thought it would be better than that. Like someone else said from what little I'd seen of her riding on tv and of her horses I thought she'd well past the 'novicey' stage. Not knocking the girl, I quite admire her, just my opinion on it.
 
I have to say that if it had been an HHO forumer's test they would have had MUCH more criticism that KP has just recieved.

I do think she & her horse looked very, very tense - I'm suprised more of you haven't commented on how overhorsed she looked.
