I was in New Lounge 2 and saw a post about katie price and looked on it...

i was amazed and shocked to see a photo of her riding without a hat...
she has her own clothing range, and is [unfortunatley

] becoming increasingly popular within the horsey world but to see her riding without a hat i find it particularly awful.
Young and impressionable children who may look up to her see photos of her riding without a hat and think its ok to do so too
im not deeming people who ride at home without a hat 'wrong' but someone in the publics eye really should know better dont you think? especially as she may seem a 'role model' or an 'inspiration'

Am i just being very very opinionated or does anyone else agree?

I just posted this in NL but i was more suprised by the draw reins pulling horses head in too far - interesting to see what the different responses will be in here to NL. Someone did mention in there about her not wearing a hat - for someone in her shoes its very irresponsible imo.

Hat is her decisions.

Not sure there are draw reins on that horse, very hard to tell, I think it look more like martingale and two reins but I could be wrong.

so what.............. it's on private yard (note her car behind) -her horses, her head!!!

I'm just so glad that my 'patey hat' is safe, as i said on here that if she got to complete for GB London 2012 dressage team - i would eat my hat!!, but she's now gone back on this aim - *******wipe brow*******

SHOCK tho - wraps DON'T MATCH, OMG call the fashion police!!!!!!

its not an advert though is it?

more that she got 'papped' while riding on private property, therefore she can wear what she likes and the photos aren't her responsibility.

Hat schmat. Do people really look at photos of celebrities and think 'yes I must copy that exactly'? I love watching my Dutch friend ride (yes, sometimes without a hat!!!) and I often wish I rode like her but I don't make the connection between her excellent riding skills and her lack of hat, FGS! Likewise, I look at Katie P and I admire that kind of ambition and drive but I don't rush off to get my chest inflated or spray my lorry pink in the forlorn hope that it will improve my career and bank balance! Role models are just that - you try to emulate the bits you like and you turn a blind eye to the bits you don't.

Yes, it's not an ad, just her riding at home or wherever.
It would seem she doesn't want to mess up her hair. Lets hope she doesn't crack her head open like a melon, or she might need some intensive conditioning treatments...

Kit, with all due respect you are in your twenties and are more than averagely intelligent.

My next door neighbour's children, however, blindly follow what ever role model they see, sometimes with disastrous results. I fully expect shocking pink leg wraps, socks down the bra (the younger child is 10) and no hat to be appearing on the road any day soon - once the snow's gone, everyone knows ponies look after themselves in snow

I normally ignore posts like this but today i think i'll join in

.

Its not an ad, its her riding at home. As previously said her choice to ride with no hat....not different to a beagler or top hat which all the top riders are seen competing in.

As a person in their twenties and of reasonable intelligence i choose what to wear on my head and when. As a child i wore a hat because my mother told me to and otherwise i wouldn't have been allowed on my pony.

Ditto this.

Must confess the first thing that sprang out at me was the clashing leg bandages - would have expected them to be either pink to match or at least white!

She looks such a state, how could anyone take her seriously as a professional looking like that! But anyway :P The draw reins- loads of people use them, (i don't personally use them in case that gets misunderstood
smile.gif
) the horse could be a naughty one and she needs a bit more control for all we know, and the hat thing is totally her choice but i do agree that she has chosen to be a role model to children with her all pink clothing range and is setting a bad example, but it's down to her at the end of the day

At the end of the day, it is her decision as to whether she wears a hat or not.

It is also the person who looks at that's desicision for if they decide to copy, and also not ride without a hat.

At the end of the day, people have their own minds, and can surely decide with those minds, whether to wear a hat or not, and their own responsibility.

Right, so the next door neighbour never drinks in front of the children, goes to bed at the same time as them and does not drive a car then I take it? Because these are all things adults are allowed to do which children are not. If the kids appear riding without hats then take it up with the parents - after all it is illegal for anyone under the age of 14 to be on the road without a hat.

Also, why would a 10yo be reading The Sun? I know it has a reading age of 6, but still!

I just do not buy the 'children will do it' argument - to me that's just an excuse for bad parenting because there are literally hundreds of things which we all do, daily, in front of children that they are not allowed to do purely because we are adults and they are not.

i really really hate posts like this (sorry OP

at the end of the day...what she choses to wear is up to her. personally i always wear a hat, but its my decision- neither of my trainers do but it doesn't make me want to 'copy' them...similarly i only wear a BP when i HAVE to but have friends who wear them all the time...
i really do worry about this 'children will try and copy it' argument- fair enough they might BUT then surely its the parents' job to make sure they don't- ie explain why KP is stupid for not wearing her hat etc etc....
crazy.gif
if it was a picture of carl hester then nobody would give a fig what he had on his head....and i'm sure just as many horsey kids want to emulate him...

who are we to criticize, if KP wants to ride without a hat and wear pink, so what it is on her own land, she is at least getting sensible tuition and hopefully enjoying her horses. I am not so sure young people would emulate, and It is up to us as responsible Adults to supervise and educate our young folk as to what is good practise and what is not.
KP might not get to the Olympics, but I hope she has alot of fun and enjoyment from her horses.

exactly.

besides hundreds of people school their horses without a hat and with draw reins at home. the only difference is they dont have photographers stalking them and taking random photos.

And re the tight draw reins,,,a photo is a split second in time. she isnt schooling the horse, just walking it from place to place and maybe she just help onto the reins a bit tighter and horse reacted by over bending for a millisecond. we have no idea what happened before or after the photo.

i am not a KP fan. but seriously...
she can do what she wants,
just like everyone else does what they want in their own home;

Well said, I think we are far to quick to find a scapegoat and that is what we do with people like KP, I am sure if we look a little closely at ourselves we may find we have not always been perfect. except myself of course lol

Yes, I know she doesnt have to wear a hat if she doesnt want to but the its the fact that she goes on about wearing a hat in interviews that gets me...
