What are everybodys thoughts on this?
I personally am a huge fan of katie price,and think that all the bad media attention makes her out as a bad person,even though I agree she has gone abit wild since her split! But..she seems to be settling down again now,and shes gone and bought a 150,000 pound dressage horse from the netherlands.
Its from Laurence van Lirens yard..
However nice it seems,I still cant help think that if shes still only at novice/elementary level dressage then does she realistically be needing to spend so much on one horse?
Having said that I know if I had that amount of money Id be doing the same thing no doubt!!

Thoughts?

to be honest,its nice to see somebody spend alot of money on one horse,then concentrate on getting it right.
she has the right instructor,the best horses,so I think we'll be seeing her progress very quickly now..!
 
If I had the money then yep I would buy the best horse I could afford.

If I were her though (and reports are to be believed!) I might think a bit more seriously about what sort of horse I wanted and trying them out a bit more thoroughly. Isn't this her 4th dressage horse as she didn't 'get on' with the others? I have to wonder if she is just being swayed by a hefty price tag and impressive producing instead of buying a horse that she gets on with and can work with.

Absolutely agree! Though obviously it does raise the issue of whether a horse worth that kind of money would be very suitable for an amateur - expensive horses tend to be bred for pro's and come with all sorts of issues only very experienced riders can iron out.

Thats what I think. Just because you can afford an expensive horse doesn't mean it'll be the right thing. But I guess it's the same at all the price ranges.

yup, i'd buy the best i could afford too. people would find fault in anything... imagine if she bought one for 2k... everyone would pick on her for that too.

perhaps i could be her friend? she's a bit short of friends at the mo... perhaps she would donate me one of her 'cast-off' horses... hmmm... i'm a bit bored at the moment, i'm sure some celeb stalking would fill my time...

I think that if she wants to own a nice horse and have someone compete it for her, good for her and well done for supporting the sport. BD needs these kinds of owners.

If she wants it for herself it sounds like a waste of money to me. From what I have seen of her riding she is very much a novice (as am I!!! It's not a criticism!) and she would benefit more from an Elem/Medium schoolmaster she could downgrade and compete Prelim/Novice and above. That kind of horse, even with the temperament of a saint, should not cost more than 15,000 not 150,000!!!
 
To be fair it's probably not a £150k horse if anyone else was buying it....but someone has seen KP coming and is making the most of it

If it really is a £150k horse it probably won't be for long....but then she can afford it so does it really matter...it's bringing money into the horse world

Agree. I think she is over horsing herself at the moment and would be better off getting a medium schoolmaster. But maybe she is already having lessons on schoolmasters. I dont really care what she spends her money on but feel she is making a mistake buying these horses now. With good training, dedication and the opportunity to ride well-trained schoolmasters there is no reason why she cant succeed although I dont think she will ever make it to the superleague as she doesnt seem focussed enough.

Unfortunately I've read (in an interview with Andrew Gould) that she has no intention of buying horses for other people (him) to compete in the long term which I think is a huge shame. She could still ride and compete herself on another horse (and at the level) that suits her ability but at the same time provide someone else with a great oppportunity and enjoy the kudos of being an owner.
 
As other people have said, if I had that sort of money I'd be tempted to buy myself a top quality horse.

I have my doubts about the price tag though, I think only The Sun has said it was £150k, and we all know how reliable they are! I would not claim to be an expert on dressage or breeding, but his pedigree doesn't look to be that impressive. After all, Kings Fancy was up for sale in Horse this month for half as much, and I know which I'd rather buy (with my lottery winnings from this weekend

As much as I can't stand her she could become the best owner in british equestrian history which I think, most agree, is what teamGB really needs now. We have some fab riders accross the disciplines just not the horsepower
 
she has the money so why not? a good business woman so doubt she will lose out in the long run. i doubt that she is inadequate and unlike the norm she has an excellent training and back up team

Yes, you may well be right she may be trying to ride these horses herself in which case I can see why she is moving on to the next one so quickly, she is probably scaring herself half to death!

She is listed as the owner of one of Andrew Gould's rides on his webpage (Jordan's Andre - she may well be changing that name soon!), so perhaps she is buying for both reasons. Who knows? Good gossip though, keeps us all occuppied

Katie seems to like getting her leg over lots of diffrent types of rides from mares to geldings ( as seen recently in the press)

She seems to go from one ride to another ..as she must get quite bored riding the same one all the time.

I wonder how many horses she actually owns now, it must be quite a few.
 
I was surprised to hear about this latest horse as she seems to have recently purchased quite a few dressage horses, plus an eventer?? Has she actually done anything with them?

Agree with earlier comments that buying a 150k horse from a professional is madness, unless Andrew is going to spend a lot of time making it suitable for her, as I imagine its been ridden very strongly and might enjoy having a small, novice lady on its back! A good schoolmaster would be a lot cheaper, safer and less waste of a good horse (IF its actually worth that money).
 
I'd do the same if I had the money....
I know of a dealer who gets asked to find a Junior team horse for that kind of money for their kid!
And lets face it, Andrew Gould will keep it sweet, she no doubt has a lesson everytime she rides so will learn a great deal on it.
She's also putting herself up with the big boys and girls in terms of horse power.
I don't blame her to be honest, and seeing the way she is with her horses, she's clearly a horsey person.

A friend of mine has a young dressage horse who was almost 200k and came from Holland... yes it is a very talented, stunning looking black horse but is NOT an easy ride at all and I wouldn't get on it for any money (and I would probably get on most things!)

It is clear the horse is used to very firm riding and I have seen it use opportunities to escape the aids and generally be a prat, albeit a very big stunning looking one lol. Luckily my friend has as much riding ability (competed to PSG) as money and its ridden by a professional too.

I think big money for a young inexperienced horse like that is very different to say spending the same amount on an older, been there done it schoolmaster, which might still have its quirks don't get me wrong, but its more a case of learning to push the right buttons and improve your own riding.
 
According to the tabloids (if they can be believed of course!) she's bought this new super-duper £150k horse as she didn't 'click' with the others...there's a common denominator in all this and that's Katie herself, agree with others that have said perhaps she should look for somethig more suited to the level she's at, after all, as my instructor continually tells me, you can have the most well schooled horse i the world but you still need to be able to push the right buttons!!!!

Nail and head comes to mind NNA. Nowadays schoolmaster seems to mean the horse always does what is expected, not whats asked. When really a schoolmaster is a horse who doesn't do movements untill asked correctly, although they usually have temprements of saints! I used to ride a lovely real schoolmaster but it took weeks of going sideways until I could even get him to go in a straight line without his ears in my mouth! lol But he used to give little "teasers" of what he could really do, I learn't loads. He was v old, had a few health issues and probs wasn't worth very much at all but the experience he gave me was irriplaceable

Never has such a true word been spoken and I think its a crying shame that the only so called ' celebrity' the horseworld can hang its hat on is someone like her ( and I don't care how much money she's got, its not bought her any class at all )
