Kauto Star Retired

100% the right decision but I surprised how sad I am at the thought of never seeing him race again, no Kauto, no Denman, no Masterminded feels like the end of a special era, but hopefully the start of a new one with some lovely young horses ready to enhance their reputation this season :)

Enjoy your retirement Kauto :D

^^^ I'm really sad that I won't be seeing him again too!!!

Can't wait to see who "get's" him and hope they do a blog on here like Denman. Lucky lucky bugger to have him to hunt or whatever......... Will be interesting to see what happens next for him.

Thanks Kauto for the wonderful moments! :)

Totally agree........... :-)

I'm so glad to hear that. I still laugh though at PN saying retirement was awful for a racehorse as they went from having everything to shivering in a field all winter. I think the amount he has earned over his career someone could buy him a rug, heck I would donate one! Maybe he could even have a stable sometimes!
A beautiful horse who will be sorely missed on the track.

Correct decision, was dreading something happening to him.

There are many things he could do so he isn't bored.

Look forward to watching him parade before the King George :D

The right decision made at the right time. I totally agree that they kept him on in training and if he was going all guns blazing then he ran, if not then retire him.

Happy retirement King Kauto!

What a superstar!! How thrilling he was to watch, especially over the last.

Well done to connections keeping him going so well for so long and now making the right decision for the horse.

I'd like to wish him a long and happy retirement.

I'm booking my ticket for Kempton now!

The end of an era, in fact the end of an era all round. This news reduced me to tears as my brother, who loved this horse, died last week and will never hear this. He would have been so relieved.

I'd love to see him making a new career in dressage.

Oh Daffodil that is so sad about your brother, Kauto Star is loved by millions and I too am tearful and I dont know whether its because he has retired or that we will never see him race again.

Such mixed emotions! In tears and it's a mixture of sadness at not seeing him race again, relief that he's retired safe and sound and happiness at some of the fantastic memories he's given racing fans over the years

For me, he was back to his incomparable best last season after being below par the season before and I don't mind admitting I bawled my eyes out watching him win the Betfair and a 5th King George! It really shows what a class act he is to come back to that form from being below his best. I will also never forget the sight of him cantering back after a horrendous looking fall in the Gold Cup a couple of years ago - he almost got a bigger cheer than the winner! My favourite racehorse of all time bar none

Will be interesting to see what he does next. PN has always maintained that he's a horse that relishes his work but he seems to be quite a "hot" sort - not as laid back as Denman. Not sure I'd be brave enough to hunt or team chase him!

Whatever the future holds, wishing you a long and happy reirement Kauto Star - an absolute legend! :)

Great news and the right decision. What a brilliant horse he has been over the years. Will miss him though! So glad he has retired well and sound. I hope he has a long and happy retirement, and enjoys whatever he ends up doing. One thing is for sure, he'll never be forgotten! Oh, Daffodil, that is so sad about your brother. I'm sure he knows x
Just want to add, thank you for all the wonderful memories, Kauto.

He’s been a wonderful horse.
He’s lit up the National Hunt scene for 9 years. 16 grade 1’s over all the championship distances. We’ll not see another like him for a long time.
I was always heart in mouth at each fence, but 90% of the time he was a spectacular jumper and the way he could gallop hard at full tilt for 3 plus miles was always quiet awesome.

I will miss seeing him on the race course in full flight, but I wish him a long and happy retirement.

Thanks for the memories Kauto.

X

It's quite incredible to think that when Kauto won his first gold cup Frankel hadn't been born and when he won he first tingle creek Sea The Stars hadn't even been born. He seems to have been around forever :) Sad that we won't ever see him race again but happy that he has retired in one piece :)

Ive just watched the local news which had an interview with Paul Nicholls, Kauto is being kept at the yard and he will parade at Kempton on Boxing day and then a decision will be made as to what he will do next. As Paul Nicholls said he still has half his life left.:)

I remember watching one of his first races with my mouth open and thinking - what a star that horse is!

A great pleasure to watch a great horse loving his work.

Here's to a long and happy retirement.

100% right decision. So please he'll be retiring at the top of his game and remembered as the great champion he is.

I can't help but admit that I would LOVE to see him teamchase alongside Denman!

They did a little feature on the BBC news this morning. Just a brief interview with the groom in charge of Kauto and then showed a little montage of clips and photos.

Actually felt a little tear come to my eye! Must be going soft in my old age

It will be sad not to see him racing again, but it would have been much sadder to see him race and come nowhere or pulled up. He has gone out at the top and to come back and win the King George was amazing.

He has given racing fans so much pleasure over his long career, and the mark of a true champion is the ability to win over different distances. I always reckoned that Denman was the more "natural" jumper, but Kauto learned how to jump and got better and better.
I hope he has a fun and active retirement.

It is the end of an era, but we will have to look forward to new horses coming along.
